After infratrochlear nerve block for nasolacrimal probing, sudden vision loss, proptosis, pain, loss of light reflexes, and a total limitation of ocular movement was observed in a 71-year-old female patient. She was diagnosed with retrobulbar hemorrhage and orbital compartment syndrome (OCS). Lateral canthotomy, cantholysis, and medial orbitotomy were performed on the patient. She was not taking any oral anticoagulant medication and did not have any disease other than hypothyroidism and systemic hy-pertension. All the clinical findings returned to normal right after the intervention except mild ptosis (~1 mm), which persisted for 2 months. All patients scheduled for periocular anesthesia should be questioned about using oral anticoagulant medications, and the possibility of serious complications should be kept in mind even for patients without any risk factors. Patients with OCS secondary to retrobulbar hemorrhage should be surgically managed within the critical window (90 min) to prevent any irrevers-ible optic nerve injury.

Reduced weight-bearing during spaceflight has been associated with musculoskeletal degradation that risks astronaut health and performance in transit and upon reaching deep space destinations. Previous rodent experiments aboard the international space station (ISS) have identified that the spaceflight-induced molecular arthritic phenotype was characterized with an increase in oxidative stress. This study evaluated if treatment with a superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic on orbit could prevent spaceflight-induced damage to the knee and hip articular cartilage, and the menisci in rodents.

Background: Craniofacial mucormycosis is a highly lethal infectious disease. This study aims to assess and analyze multiple variables, including clinical, socioeconomic, and biochemical markers, to identify and examine risk factors for mortality associated with this mycotic infection.
Material And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 38 patients who sought medical attention at the Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Division of a tertiary-level hospital in Monterrey, Mexico.

The energy gaps, spin-orbit coupling (SOC), and admixture coefficients over a series of the configurations are evaluated by the SA-CASSCF/6-31G, SA-CASSCF/6-31G*, SA-CASSCF/ANO-RCC-VDZP, and MS-CASPT2/ANO-RCC-VDZP to reveal the extent of the inaccuracy of the SA-CASSCF. By comparing the mean absolute errors for the energy gaps and the admixture coefficient magnitudes (ACMs) measured between the SA-CASSCF/6-31G, SA-CASSCF/6-31G*, or SA-CASSCF/ANO-RCC-VDZP and the MS-CASPT2/ANO-RCC-VDZP, the SA-CASSCF/6-31G is selected as the electronic structure method in the nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulation. The major components of the ACMs of the SA-CASSCF/6-31G and MS-CASPT2/ANO-RCC-VDZP are identified and compared; we find that the ACMs are underestimated by the SA-CASSCF/6-31G, which is verified by the reasonable triplet quantum yield simulated by the trajectory surface hopping and the calibrated SA-CASSCF/6-31G.

Endovascular embolization is the preferred treatment, typically performed via the transfemoral transvenous route through the inferior petrosal sinus (IPS). However, we present a case and a systematic review of indirect CCF treated through deep orbital puncture of the superior ophthalmic vein (SOV) for embolization.

In the rapidly evolving biobased materials innovation landscape, our research identifies key players and explores the evolutionary perspective of biobased innovation, offering insights into promising research areas to be further developed by biobased material scientists in search of exploiting their knowledge in novel applications. Despite the crucial role of these materials in promoting sustainable production and consumption models, systematic studies on the current innovation terrain are lacking, leaving gaps in understanding key players, emerging technologies, and market trends. To address this void, we focused on examining patents related to biobased monomers and polymers, aiming to describe the innovation strategies and business dynamics of leading assignees.
