Ethnically and racially diverse schools provide students opportunities to socially interact with both same- and cross-ethnic peers that can shape their sense of belonging within a school. This study investigates the extent to which same- or cross-ethnic friends influence feelings of school belonging in two large, diverse U.S. high schools (total = 4,461; 9th-12th grade; 49.6% girls). Employing a longitudinal social network analytic approach, using stochastic actor-oriented modeling, this study found that students become more similar or stay similar to their same-ethnic friends, but not cross-ethnic friends, with no clear indication that students select friends based on similar levels of belonging. These novel findings highlight how feelings of school belonging are fostered through sociability in same-ethnic friend groups. Implications for interventions and other approaches to enhance school belonging are discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved).

Mining activities produce large quantities of tailings and acid mine drainage, which contain varieties of heavy metals, thereby affecting the downstream farmland soils and crops. Heavy metals could induce antibiotic resistance through co-selection pressure. However, the profiles of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the mining-affected farmland soils and crops are still unclear.

Objectives: This study sought to assess the advantages of utilizing the single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) procedure for repairing neonatal congenital duodenal obstruction (CDO) in terms of clinical outcomes and complication rates.
Methods: In a retrospective cohort study conducted at a single center, neonates with CDO who underwent SILS were compared to those who underwent conventional laparoscopic surgery (CLS) between January 2018 and December 2022. The demographic and operative characteristics of CDO patients who underwent SILS or CLS were analyzed, including conversion rates and postoperative complications.
This study concerns the U/U ratios in environmental samples collected in the Pamir region (Central Asia). Cryoconite (a supra-glacial sediment), soil and river water were sampled in the Muztagh Ata Glacier Basin, a secondary basin belonging to Gaizi River watershed. The aim of the research is to assess the impact of anthropic nuclear activities in such a remote area, being the U/U ratio highly sensitive to anthropogenic disturbances.

Background: Therapeutic advancements for the polyglutamine diseases, particularly spinocerebellar degeneration, are eagerly awaited. We evaluated the safety, tolerability, and therapeutic effects of L-arginine, which inhibits the conformational change and aggregation of polyglutamine proteins, in patients with spinocerebellar ataxia type 6 (SCA6).
Methods: A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 2 trial (clinical trial ID: AJA030-002, registration number: jRCT2031200135) was performed on 40 genetically confirmed SCA6 patients enrolled between September 1, 2020, and September 30, 2021.
