Introduction: Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV) is a highly contagious alpha-herpes virus. The diagnosis of chickenpox remains a difficult task especially in cases of breakthrough chickenpox, so the development of reliable laboratory tests is necessary. The simplest and most sensitive serological test for detecting antibodies in human and animal sera is the passive hemagglutination reaction (PHAR).

Pitting corrosion caused by sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) significantly shortens the lifespan of metallic pipelines. Antibacterial coatings containing S-responsive drug-loaded nanocontainers represent a promising method to mitigate SRB corrosion. However, the challenge of balancing rapid bactericide release with continuous antibacterial effect limits their practical application.

We present here a passive and label-free droplet microfluidic platform to sort cells stepwise by lactate and proton secretion from glycolysis. A technology developed in our lab, Sorting by Interfacial Tension (SIFT), sorts droplets containing single cells into two populations based on pH by using interfacial tension. Cellular glycolysis lowers the pH of droplets through proton secretion, enabling passive selection based on interfacial tension and hence single-cell glycolysis.

The occurrence of viral diseases poses a huge threat and impact on human public health safety and the development of the animal and fishery industry. Here, a strain of single-chain antibody fragment, scFv-1, was isolated from the phage antibody display library construct by immunizing New Zealand white rabbits with rhabdovirus. analysis showed that the single-chain antibody could inhibit the infection of the virus in multiple pathways, including adsorption, fusion, and release.
