Published: April 2022

Significant modulation of Poisson's ratio of IV-VI semiconductor monolayers in an electric field was claimed to be discovered by first-principles calculations in , 2021, 12, 3217-3223. We show that these results are not correct because of improper modeling of the electric field.

Hypersensitive meta-crack strain sensor for real-time biomedical monitoring.

Real-time monitoring of infinitesimal deformations on complex morphologies is essential for precision biomechanical engineering. While flexible strain sensors facilitate real-time monitoring with shape-adaptive properties, their sensitivity is generally lower than spectroscopic imaging methods. Crack-based strain sensors achieve enhanced sensitivity with gauge factors (GFs) exceeding 30,000; however, such GFs are only attainable at large strains exceeding several percent and decline below 10 for strains under 10, rendering them inadequate for minute deformations.

The pursuit of efficient and accurate human-computer interface design urgently requires high-performance sensors with pressure sensitivity, a wide detection range, and excellent cycling stability. Herein, a biomimetic honeycomb-like TiCT MXene/bacterial cellulose (BC) aerogel with a negative Poisson's ratio (ν = -0.14) synthesized from the bidirectional freeze-drying method is used as the active material for a flexible pressure sensor, which exhibits high sensitivity (20.

Cellular biomaterials offer unique properties for diverse biomedical applications. However, their complex viscoelastic behavior requires careful consideration for design optimization. This study explores the effective viscoelastic response of two promising unit cell designs (tetrahedron-based and octet-truss) suitable for high porosity and strong mechanics.

In the development of restorative materials, it is important to evaluate the elastic properties of the material in order to achieve good clinical results. The aim of this study was to evaluate the compression behavior of two dental flowable materials (EverX Flow and Flow-Art) using experimental methods and numerical simulation. The Poisson's ratio was determined using two methods of strain measurement: the electrical strain gauge method (ESG) and digital image correlation (DIC).

A theoretical model for porous viscoelastoplastic (VEP) materials in the dry state is investigated in this research study. The model is based on the principles of conservation of mass and energy using the rheological dynamic theory (RDT). The model provides expressions for the creep coefficient, Poisson's ratio, modulus of elasticity, damage variable, and strength as a function of porosity and/or void volume fraction (VVF).
