AI Article Synopsis

  • A new compound called talasteroid, a withanolide, was discovered alongside a known steroid and eight meroterpenoids from a marine-derived fungus.
  • The structures and configurations of these compounds were identified using advanced techniques like NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.
  • Talasteroid is the first withanolide to have a unique 4-substituted 2,3-dimethyl-2-butenolide ring, and the researchers also tested the compounds for their antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.

Article Abstract

A new withanolide, talasteroid (), and a known steroid (), along with eight meroterpenoids (-), were obtained from the rice culture of the marine-derived fungus HBU-115. The structure of including its absolute configuration was determined by extensive 1 D and 2 D NMR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound represents the first withanolide featuring a 4-substituted 2,3-dimethyl-2-butenolide ring in the side chain. The isolated compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities.
