Ultrasound-Assisted Solid-Phase Affibody Synthesis Using Z as an Example-Superior to the Conventional Protocol?

Pharmaceuticals (Basel)

September 2024

Biomedical Chemistry, Clinic of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University, Theodor-Kutzer-Ufer 1-3, 68167 Mannheim, Germany.

Background: Affibody molecules represent a class of highly specific binders of particular interest for the development of highly affine target-specific radiopharmaceuticals. Their chemical synthesis is, however, intricate due to their considerable length of 58 amino acids; thus, approaches to optimize their preparation are constantly being sought.

Methods: As ultrasound assistance has recently been shown to increase the efficiency of amino acid conjugation during solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS), the influence of ultrasonication on the outcome of the SPPS-based preparation of the EGFR-specific affibody Z was compared to a common protocol relying on mechanical shaking.

The common synthesis approach of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) using toxic reducing agents poses a threat to environmental pollution. This study used banana peel extract as a green reducing agent for the synthesis of rGO. Ultrasonication was assimilated to expedite the synthesis process.

Amine-functionalized porous silica production via ex- and in-situ method using silicate precursors as a selective adsorbent for CO capture applications.

Heliyon

March 2024

Department of Chemical Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Kampus ITS Sukolilo, Surabaya, 60111, Indonesia.

A comparison of the amine-modified silica particle's characteristics via ex- and in-situ routes and their application as a CO gas adsorbent is reported. Modifying silica particles via ex-situ involves two separate steps: forming porous silica particles with sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as a template and impregnation using ultrasound assistance. In contrast to ex-situ modification, in-situ modification of silica particles is carried out in one step by mixing directly between the silica source and the modifying agent.

Ultrasound guidance for arterial (other than femoral) catheterisation in adults.

Cochrane Database Syst Rev

October 2021

Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Universidade Federal de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.

Background: Arterial vascular access is a frequently performed procedure, with a high possibility for adverse events (e.g. pneumothorax, haemothorax, haematoma, amputation, death), and additional techniques such as ultrasound may be useful for improving outcomes.
