Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a new type of porous material, have shown many possible applications in gas storage and separation, biomedicine, catalysis, and so on. While most MOFs are synthesized through solvothermal synthesis where a large quantity of organic solvent is used, the green synthetic approach using a minimized amount of solvent is important to prevent irreversible environmental compacts. In this study, we successfully synthesized Zr-MOFs with SBUs (e.g., UiO-66 and MIL-140A) using a simple metal source and investigated the role of organic modulators in modulating the MOF structures during solid-state synthesis. Meanwhile, UiO-66 rich in defects synthesized via a solid-state conversion strategy shows good catalytic performance for the ring-opening of epoxides with alcohols. This work contributes to the understanding of the role of organic modulators in the solid-state synthesis of MOFs.

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) is a versatile viral vector technology that can be engineered for specific functionality in vaccine and gene therapy applications. One of the major challenges in AAV production is the need for a GMP-ready platform-based approach to downstream processing, as this would lead to a standardized method for multiple products. Chromatography has huge potential in AAV purification, as it is a scalable method that would enable manufacturing to a high degree of purity, potency, and consistency.

ConspectusWhile photochromic natural sodalites, an aluminosilicate mineral, were originally considered as curiosities, articles published in the past ten years have radically changed this perspective. It has been proven that their artificial synthesis was easy and allowed compositional tuning. Combined with simulations, it has been shown that a wide range of photochromic properties were achievable for synthetic sodalites (color, activation energy, reversibility, etc.

Soluble starch/zinc oxide nanocomposites could be promising candidates for eco-friendly antimicrobial, food packaging, and a wide range of other utilization. In order to find a new way for the preparation of this kind of nanocomposites, an efficient and energy-saving reaction for the synthesis of soluble starch/zinc oxide nanocomposites has been investigated. The reaction was implemented in a solid state at room temperature without post-reaction calcination.

Arginine (Arg) is involved in tissue metabolism and regulates the immune function; thereby, achieving the detection of Arg is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Herein, dual ratiometric fluorescence sensors were prepared with the blue emission of levorotatory/dextrorotatory carbon dots (CDs) and the red emission of porphyrin (L/D-CDs-PP) for the sensitive and portable detection of Arg. Interestingly, L-CDs-PP and D-CDs-PP displayed not only the dual emission peaks at 493 and 650 nm but also different response modes to Arg; thus, they could serve as dual ratiometric fluorescence sensors to achieve the accurate and reliable detection of Arg, with the detection limit of 23.

The aza-Wittig reaction was successfully applied to the synthesis of carboranyl-imines, which are difficult to obtain by classical methods. A variety of functionalized carboranyl Schiff bases was obtained proving the great scope of the methodology. All compounds were fully characterized, including the solid-state structures of six of them.
