Herein, we report the metal-free hydration of pyridine-SF-alkynes, under acidic conditions and with reaction durations ranging from 5 min to 10 h at room temperature, to synthesize pyridine-SF-methyl ketones in yields of 59-93%. Further, we demonstrate the synthetic applications of the synthesized pyridine-SF-methyl ketones, such as chlorination, NaBH reduction, Baeyer-Villiger oxidation, and the generation of enol-triflates. These compounds hold promise as useful building blocks in the syntheses of a wide range of SF-containing drug candidates.

Ultra-endurance exercise events result in central fatigue, impacting on mental alertness and decision making. Endocannabinoids are typically elevated during endurance exercise and have been implicated in central processes such as learning and memory, but their role in central fatigue has never been studied. Twenty-four recreational male ultrarunners participated in a 100-km trail run, and 18 of them completed at least 60 km and were included in the analyses.

Chiral diaryl alcohols, such as (4-chlorophenyl)(pyridin-2-yl)methanol, are important intermediates for pharmaceutical synthesis. However, using alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) in the asymmetric reduction of diaryl ketones to produce the corresponding alcohols is challenging due to steric hindrance in the substrate binding pockets of the enzymes. In this study, the steric hindrance of the ADH from Geotrichum candidum NBRC 4597 (G.

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, has spurred an extraordinary scientific effort to better understand the disease's pathophysiology and develop diagnostic and prognostic tools to guide more precise and effective clinical management. Among the biological samples analyzed for biomarker identification, urine stands out due to its low risk of infection, non-invasive collection, and suitability for frequent, large-volume sampling. Integrating data from omics studies with standard biochemical analyses offers a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of COVID-19.

Background/objectives: Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), extensively studied in terrestrial plants with global emissions around 1 PgC yr, are also produced by marine organisms. However, benthic species, especially seagrasses, are understudied despite their global distribution (177,000-600,000 km). This study aims to examine BVOC emissions from key Mediterranean seagrass species (, , , and ) in marine and coastal lagoon environments.

Volatile compounds have a deep influence on the quality and application of the medicinal herb ; however, little is known about the effect of UV-B radiation on volatile metabolites. We herein investigated the effects of UV-B exposure on the volatile compounds and transcriptome of to assess the potential for improving its quality and medicinal characteristics. Out of 733 volatiles obtained, a total of 133 differentially expressed metabolites (DEMs) were identified by metabolome analysis.
