Clinical trials are crucial for drug development but often face uncertain outcomes due to safety, efficacy, or patient-recruitment problems. We propose the Hierarchical Interaction Network (HINT) to predict clinical trial outcomes. First, HINT encodes multi-modal data (drug molecule, target disease, trial eligibility criteria) into embeddings. Then, HINT trains knowledge-embedding modules using drug pharmacokinetic and historical trial data. Finally, a hierarchical interaction graph connects all of the embeddings to capture their interactions and predict trial outcomes. HINT was trained and validated on 1,160 phase I trials, 4,449 phase II trials, and 3,436 phase III trials. It obtained 0.665, 0.620, and 0.847 F1 scores on separate test sets of 627 phase I, 1,653 phase II, and 1,140 phase III trials, respectively. HINT significantly outperforms the best baseline method on most metrics. The benchmark dataset and codes are released at https://github.com/futianfan/clinical-trial-outcome-prediction.

Purpose: Social support, particularly from family, is crucial for physical activity (PA) among youth. This study examined the association between father support and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in Latina pre-teens and explored the moderating role of body mass index (BMI).

Design: Cross-sectional analysis.

Efficient thermal generation from solar/electric energy in transparent films remains challenging due to the limited toolbox of high-performance thermal generation materials and methods for microstructure engineering. Here, we proposed a two-step strategy to introduce hierarchical wrinkles to the MXene composite films with high transparency, leading to upgraded photo/electrothermal conversion efficiency. Specifically, the thin film contains protic acid-treated MXene layers assembled with Ag nanowires (H-MXene/Ag NWs).

Early life trauma has been shown to facilitate habitual behavior, which may predispose individuals toward perpetuating maladaptive behaviors. However, previous investigations did not account for other traumatic childhood experiences like racial/ethnic discrimination exposure, nor have they examined the interaction of trauma and habits on real-world adverse outcomes. To examine these effects, we recruited 96 young adults (20.

Corticocortical (CC) projections in the visual system facilitate hierarchical processing of sensory information. In addition to direct CC connections, indirect cortico-thalamo-cortical (CTC) pathways through the pulvinar nucleus of the thalamus can relay sensory signals and mediate cortical interactions according to behavioral demands. While the pulvinar connects extensively to the entire visual cortex, it is unknown whether transthalamic pathways link all cortical areas or whether they follow systematic organizational rules.

Fabrication of hierarchical sapphire nanostructures using ultrafast laser induced morphology change.

Sapphire is an attractive material in photonic, optoelectronic, and transparent ceramic applications that stand to benefit from surface functionalization effects stemming from micro/nanostructures. Here we investigate the use of ultrafast lasers for fabricating nanostructures in sapphire by exploring the relationship between irradiation parameters, morphology change, and selective etching. In this approach an ultrafast laser pulse is focused on the sapphire substrate to change the crystalline morphology to amorphous or polycrystalline, which is characterized by examining different vibrational modes using Raman spectroscopy.
