As depicted in Figure 1, studies on silicon and silica-based nanostructures first appeared in the early 1990s, and their numbers grew until the mid-2010s [...].

Cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) often coexist in water and agricultural soils around mining areas, and it is difficult to remove them at the same time due to their opposite chemical behaviors. Therefore, this study employed a co-precipitation-pyrolysis method to synthesize silica-based magnetic biochar (SMB) materials for the remediation of water contaminated with both Cd and As. The optimization of preparation conditions involved introducing three different types of silicates (NaSiO, CaSiO,and SiO) into the biomass-magnetite mixture, followed by pyrolysis at various temperatures (300℃, 500℃, and 700℃), and the optimal preparation conditions were determined based on the composite batch experiments.

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the main hepatic primary malignancy. Patients with advanced HCC receiving the recommended therapies have a poor outcome. In different settings, nanotechnology has gained attraction as a potential alternative strategy for improving therapeutic effectiveness.

The enhanced characteristic near-infrared photoluminescence related to Er ions was achieved as usual since the introduction of Yb ions is equivalent to adding a new energy transfer channel. We further designed and fabricated the electroluminescent device based on SiO-SnO:Er/Yb films.

The earliest silicon-based aerogels attracted attention due to their nanoscale porous structure and high transparency. Still, they need to be more balanced with the poor mechanical properties. Their brittle structure limits the development of this promising new material.

The performance of mid-infrared (MIR) on-chip gas sensors, operating via laser absorption spectroscopy, hinges critically on light-matter interaction dynamics, significantly influenced by external confinement and the effective light path length. Conventional on-chip sensors, however, face challenges in achieving the required limit of detection for highly sensitive applications, primarily due to their intrinsically short effective light path. Furthermore, these sensors are limited in their spectral range coverage within the MIR spectrum by the constraints of standard silicon-based platforms.
