Saliva specimens have drawn interest for diagnosing respiratory viral infections due to their ease of collection and decreased risk to healthcare providers. However, rapid and sensitive immunoassays have not yet been satisfactorily demonstrated for such specimens due to their viscosity and low viral loads. Using paper microfluidic chips and a smartphone-based fluorescence microscope, we developed a highly sensitive, low-cost immunofluorescence particulometric SARS-CoV-2 assay from clinical saline gargle samples. We demonstrated the limit of detection of 10 ag/μL. With easy-to-collect saline gargle samples, our clinical sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 100%, 86%, and 93%, respectively, for  = 27 human subjects with  = 13 RT-qPCR positives.

Efficacy of different endodontic irrigants in the lesion sterilization and tissue repair technique in primary molars: A randomized controlled clinical trial.

J Indian Soc Pedod Prev Dent

October 2024

Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Background And Aim: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of different endodontic irrigants employed in the lesion sterilization and tissue repair (LSTR) technique.

Methods: Forty children aged 4-8 years having at least one primary molar with irreversible pulpitis/pulpal necrosis indicated for pulpectomy were included. Participants were randomly divided into three test groups (Group A, B, and C) and one control group (Group D).

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of andiz extract on wound healing and compare it with saline and chlorhexidine gluconate. Microbial DNA load was used to evaluate its antibacterial effects, and gene expression methods were used to assess its contribution to cytokine release and wound healing.

Methods And Results: A standardized wound site was created with a 3 mm diameter punch on 32 male Wistar albino rats.

Background: In a previous pilot randomised controlled trial conducted on UK adults, we found that hypertonic saline nasal irrigation and gargling (HSNIG) reduced common cold symptoms, the need for over-the-counter medications, viral shedding, and the duration and transmission of the illness. It is unclear whether HSNIG improves outcomes of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Hypertonic saline can be prepared and HSNIG performed at home, making it a safe and scalable intervention, particularly well-suited for low- and middle-income countries.

Objective: To evaluate the ability of resveratrol to reduce dental caries in vitro and in vivo.

Methods: In part 1, a microcosm biofilm protocol was employed. One hundred twenty-six bovine enamel specimens were treated with: Resveratrol (50, 100, 200, 400 µg/mL), Phosphate buffered saline (negative control), Dimethyl sulfoxide (negative control) and 0.
