Communication between the nervous system and immune system is important for regulating immunity in health and disease. Yu et al. (2022) show that neuropeptide Y and its homolog NPF serve as a "language" to facilitate crosstalk between these two systems across species, enabling neurons to downregulate harmful immune responses.

Background: Functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (FHA) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are pathologies most common in women of reproductive age. Menstrual irregularities (oligo/amenorrhea) are the most common symptom of these diseases. FHA develops against the background of stress or excessive physical exertion, and is characterized by inhibition of neuroendocrine regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis with a subsequent decrease in the production of sex steroids.

Perinatal natriophilia has programming effects on blood pressure control, inducing anatomical and molecular changes in the kidney and brain that impair blood pressure reestablishment after a pressor challenge, such as an osmotic stimulation. However, the imprinted effect of voluntary sodium consumption during this period on the development of hypertension is unclear. To evaluate this, we studied the effect of deoxycorticosterone acetate and high-salt diet (DOCA-salt) treatment on blood pressure and sodium intake responses, and gene expression in the kidney and brain in adult offspring exposed to voluntary hypertonic sodium consumption during the perinatal period (PM-NaCl group).

Thermal stress in marine environments is likely to become more widespread in marine environments. Understanding age-related physiological adaptations to thermal stress is critically important for predicting the impacts of global climate change on marine biodiversity. The typical burrowing bivalve, Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum, was selected to explore molecular and physiological responses to thermal stress and how the effects varied with ages (juvenile VS.

Compared to males, aggression is less frequently noticed in females. Fierce maternal-aggression to thwart the attack/threat of male-conspecific/intruder is transiently expressed as she defends her pups. The odor cues emanated by the intruder provoke aggressive behavior by robustly activating the ventral-premammillary nucleus (PMv) in the hypothalamic-attack area (HAA).

Simultaneous bone and nerve regeneration is important in facilitating osseointegration. However, regeneration of neural elements is often overlooked when designing orthopedic implants. Since nerves are electroactive tissues that regulate bone formation via neuropeptide release, developing photoelectric coating material on implants is optimal for neural-stimulated osteoblast activation.
