The dechlorination of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) by a nanoscale Fe/Ni material was investigated at room temperature. 2,4-DCP can be removed more quickly by an Fe/Ni material with 2% Ni. Fe/Ni exhibited excellent adsorption and reduction efficiency toward 2,4-DCP in an aqueous solution over a wide range of pH values. The removal rate of 2,4-DCP exceeded 95% in 60 min in the pH range of 3.0-9.0, and more than 75% was dechlorinated to phenol (CA). The degradation pathway of 2,4-DCP was confirmed based on analysis of the intermediate and end products. A portion of 2,4-DCP was first dechlorinated with a chlorine atom to produce 2-chlorophenol and 4-chlorophenol, and then dechlorination was performed sequentially to form CA. The other portion of 2,4-DCP was dechlorinated to remove two chlorine atoms simultaneously to generate CA. The investigations are essential to the application of iron-based remediation technology.

The polychlorinated aromatic antimicrobial agent triclosan (TCS) is widely used to indiscriminately and rapidly kill microorganisms. The global use of TCS has led to widespread environmental contamination, posing significant threats to ecosystem and human health. Here we reported a newly isolated Pseudomonas sp.

Electrochemical reduction technology is a promising method for addressing the persistent contamination of groundwater by chlorinated hydrocarbons. Current research shows that electrochemical reductive dechlorination primarily relies on direct electron transfer (DET) and active hydrogen (H) mediated indirect electron transfer processes, thereby achieving efficient dechlorination and detoxification. This paper explores the influence of the molecular charge structure of chlorinated hydrocarbons, including chlorolefin, chloroalkanes, chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, and chloro-carboxylic acid, on reductive dechlorination from the perspective of molecular electrostatic potential and local electron affinity.

The extensive agricultural use of the fungicide difenoconazole (DIF) and its associated toxicity increasingly damage ecosystems and human health. Thus, an urgent need is to develop environmentally friendly technological approaches capable of effectively removing DIF residues. In this study, strain A-3 was isolated for the first time which can degrade DIF efficiently.

Chlorinated polymers have made enormous contributions to materials science and are commercially produced on a large scale. These chlorinated polymers could be recycled as chlorine sources to efficiently produce valuable chlorinated compounds owing to their facile release of HCl. Although the thermal stability of PVDC is low compared to PVC, this can be advantageous in terms of easy and fast dehydrochlorination.
