Decomposition in seafood products in the United States is monitored by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) laboratories using sensory testing, which requires highly trained analysts. A large-volume headspace (LVHS) gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) method was developed to generate analytical results that can be directly compared to sensory evaluation. Headspace vapor was withdrawn from a 1-L vial containing 50 g seafood sample using a large volume headspace autosampler. Various volatile compounds were collected simultaneously. Analytes were preconcentrated by a capillary column trapping system and then sent through a cryo-focuser mounted onto the GC injector. A selected ion monitoring (SIM) MS acquisition method was used to selectively monitor 38 compounds of interest. Samples of red snapper, croaker, weakfish, mahi-mahi, black tiger shrimp, yellowfin tuna, and sockeye salmon that have been assessed and scored by an FDA National Seafood Sensory Expert (NSSE) were used for method performance evaluation. Characteristic compounds potentially associated with seafood quality deterioration for each seafood species were identified by quantitative analysis using pooled matrix-matched calibrations and two-sample -test statistical analysis. Classification of fresh and decomposed samples was visualized on the analysis of variance (ANOVA)-principal component analysis (PCA) score plots. The results determined that the LVHS-GC/MS technique appeared promising as a screening tool to identify compounds representative of sensory analysis.

The effective implementation of domestic and international safeguards necessitates verification techniques for Nuclear Materials (NM). Even in the case of very small quantities of NMs, accounting for and analyzing such traces can provide insights into the mass balance of NMs and/or state activities, ensuring consistency in state declarations. This paper proposes and benchmarks an absolute calibration methodology for estimating the uranium-mass content in large-volume barrels (200 L).

The core advantage of metalenses over traditional bulky lenses lies in their thin volume and lightweight. Nevertheless, as the application scenarios of metalenses extend to the macro-scale optical imaging field, a contradiction arises between the increasing demand for large-aperture metalenses and the synchronous rise in design and processing costs. In response to the application requirements of metalens with diameter reaching the order of 10λ or even 10λ, this paper proposes a novel design method for fixed-height concentric-ring metalenses, wherein, under the constraints of the processing technology, a subwavelength 2D building unit library is constructed based on different topological structures, and the overall cross-section of the metalens is assembled.

Rationale And Objectives: To compare the long-term efficacy of prostatic artery embolization (PAE) with PAE followed by holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in patients with large prostatic volume (PV>80 cm), and to identify the appropriate population for PAE+HoLEP.
Methods: From March 2015 to December 2023, 208 consecutive BPH patients were enrolled into two groups: PAE monotherapy (Group A, n=168) and PAE followed by HoLEP (Group B, n=40). Differences in clinical and functional parameters between baseline and each follow-up point were compared.

Transition metal oxides (TMOs), especially zinc- and iron-based materials, are known to be one of the most innovative anode materials based on their high theoretical capacity, low price and abundant natural reserves. However, the application of these materials is limited by poor electronic conductivity, slow ion mobility and large structural transformations during charging/discharging processes. To overcome these drawbacks, sacrificial template technology has been proposed as a promising strategy to optimize the electrochemical performance and structure stability of TMOs, showing its potential especially in the storage design of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs).

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) generate vast amounts of water quality, operational, and biological data. The potential of these big data, particularly through machine learning (ML), to improve WWTP management is increasingly recognized. However, the costs associated with data collection and processing can rise sharply as datasets grow larger, and research on determining the optimal data volume for effective ML application remains limited.
