In this work, a colorimetric sensor array (CSA) for quantitative determination of total acids in apple vinegar during fermentation was constructed. The sensor array was properly designed based on indicators displacement assay (IDA) using three metal ions (Cu, Zn and Ni) as receptors to organic acids. The time stability results showed that the prepared CSA had good operational stability. Three quantitative models, including one linear (partial least square, PLS) and two nonlinear (support vector regression, SVR and back propagation artificial neural network, BP-ANN) models were used to estimate the content of total acids in fermentation broth of apple vinegar through image analysis. The correlation coefficient (R), root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) and residual predictive deviation (RPD) of the better SVR model were 0.8708, 0.0545 and 10.91, respectively. The results implied that the CSA had an excellent potential for quantitative monitoring of total acids in apple vinegar during fermentation.

Leishmaniases affect millions of people around the world, caused by Leishmania parasites. Leishmania are transmitted by female sandflies from Phlebotominae subfamily during their blood meals. In mammals, promastigotes are phagocytosed mainly by macrophages, differentiate into amastigotes and multiply.

Microbial activity in the deep continental subsurface is difficult to measure due to low cell densities, low energy fluxes, cryptic elemental cycles and enigmatic metabolisms. Nonetheless, direct access to rare sample sites and sensitive laboratory measurements can be used to better understand the variables that govern microbial life underground. In this study, we sampled fluids from six boreholes at depths ranging from 244 m to 1,478 m below ground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), a former goldmine in South Dakota, United States.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) including omega-3 and omega-6 are obtained from diet and can be measured objectively in plasma or red blood cells (RBCs) membrane biomarkers, representing different dietary exposure windows. conversion of omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs from short-to long-chain counterparts occurs via a shared metabolic pathway involving fatty acid desaturases and elongase. This analysis leveraged genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics for RBC and plasma PUFAs, along with expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) to estimate tissue-specific genetically predicted gene expression effects for delta-5 desaturase ( ), delta-6 desaturase ( ), and elongase ( ) on changes in RBC and plasma biomarkers.

Plants available in the spontaneous flora are recently studied as ingredients for food formulation in response to the demands for sustainable plant-based foods. The aim of this study was to obtain a new assortment of spreadable creams, free of palm oil, with good textural, rheological and colour attributes, high antioxidant activity and low cytotoxicity, from . (European beech) seeds.

Background: Sow longevity and reproductivity are essential in the modern swine industry. Although many studies have focused on the genetic and genomic factors for selection, little is known about the associations between the microbiome and sows with longevity in reproduction.

Results: In this study, we collected and sequenced rectal and vaginal swabs from 48 sows, nine of which completed up to four parities (U4P group), exhibiting reproductive longevity.
