Sofosbuvir is the first approved direct-acting antiviral (DAA) agent that inhibits the HCV NS5B polymerase, resulting in chain termination. The molecular models of the 2'-dihalo ribonucleotides used were based on experimental biological studies of HCV polymerase inhibitors. They were modeled within HCV GT1a and GT1b to understand the structure-activity relationship (SAR) and the binding interaction of the halogen atoms at the active site of NS5B polymerase using different computational approaches.

-Acylhomoserine lactones (AHLs) are important bacterial messengers, mediating different bacterial traits by quorum sensing in a cell-density dependent manner. AHLs are also produced by many bacteria of the marine group, which constitutes a large group within the marine microbiome. Often, specific mixtures of AHLs differing in chain length and oxidation status are produced by bacteria, but how the biosynthetic enzymes, LuxI homologs, are selecting the correct acyl precursors is largely unknown.

Four lipid supplements varying in chain length or degree of unsaturation were examined for their effects on milk yield and composition, ruminal CH emissions, rumen fermentation, nutrient utilization, and microbial ecology in lactating dairy cows. Five Nordic Red cows fitted with rumen cannulas were used in a 5 × 5 Latin square with five 28-d periods. Treatments comprised total mixed rations based on grass silage with a forage-to-concentrate ratio of 60:40 supplemented with no lipid (CO) or 50 g/kg of diet dry matter (DM) of myristic acid (MA), rapeseed oil (RO), safflower oil (SO), or linseed oil (LO).

Use of low-fidelity models may not always provide students with a realistic experience. In this study we developed an anatomically correct high-fidelity calf leg model that would serve as a better teaching model for pre-clinical veterinary students than a pre-existing low-fidelity polyvinyl chloride (PVC) model.
