Flavescence dorée (FD) poses a significant threat to grapevine health, with the American grapevine leafhopper, , serving as the primary vector. FD is responsible for yield losses and high production costs due to mandatory insecticide treatments, infected plant uprooting, and replanting. Another potential FD vector is the mosaic leafhopper, , commonly found in agroecosystems.

Post-transcriptional regulation of behavior plasticity in social insects.

Curr Opin Insect Sci

December 2024

Department of Entomology, College of Plant Protection, China Agricultural University, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Social insects often show remarkable behavioral plasticity, which is closely associated with their respective castes. The underpinnings of this plasticity are complex, involving genetic differences among individuals within a colony and regulation of gene expression at multiple levels. Post-transcriptional regulation, which increases the complexity of the transcriptome, plays a crucial role in the multilayer regulatory network that influences social insect behavior.

is widely known for its role as an arthropod biocontrol agent and plant bioinoculant. By using mass-production industrial methods, it is possible to produce large amounts of fungal single-celled propagules (including blastospores) to be applied in the field. However, in the environment, the solar ultraviolet components (particularly UV-B) can harm the fungus, negatively impacting its pathogenicity toward the arthropod pest.

GenomeDelta: detecting recent transposable element invasions without repeat library.

Genome Biol

December 2024

Institut für Populationsgenetik, Vetmeduni Vienna, Veterinärplatz 1, 1210, Vienna, Austria.

We present GenomeDelta, a novel tool for identifying sample-specific sequences, such as recent transposable element (TE) invasions, without requiring a repeat library. GenomeDelta compares high-quality assemblies with short-read data to detect sequences absent from the short reads. It is applicable to both model and non-model organisms and can identify recent TE invasions, spatially heterogeneous sequences, viral insertions, and hotizontal gene transfers.

Introduction: Aphids are phloem sap-sucking insects and are a serious destructive pest of several crop plants. Aphids are categorized as "generalists" or "specialists" depending on their host range. (Sulz.
