Molecularly imprinted polymers - MIPs - denote synthetic polymeric structures that selectively recognize the molecule of interest against which MIPs are templated. A number of works have demonstrated that MIPs can exceed the affinity and selectivity of natural antibodies, yet operating by the same principle of "lock and key". In contrast to antibodies, which have certain limitations related to the minimal size of the antigen, nanoMIPs can be fabricated against almost any target molecule irrespective of its size and low immunogenicity. Furthermore, the cost of MIP production is much lower compared to the cost of antibody production. Excitingly, MIPs can be used as nanocontainers for specific delivery of therapeutics both and . The adoption of the solid phase synthesis rendered MIPs precise reproducible characteristics and, as a consequence, improved the controlled release of therapeutic payloads. These major breakthroughs paved the way for applicability of MIPs in medicine as a novel class of therapeutics. In this review, we highlight recent advances in the fabrication of MIPs, mechanisms of controlled release from the MIPs, and their applicability in biomedical research.

Zinc-imprinted polymer (ZnIP) and non-imprinted polymer (NIP) were synthesized by radical polymerization, and their properties were studied. The novelty of the work lies in the use of humic acids isolated from coals of the Shubarkol deposit (Karaganda, Kazakhstan) as a basis for the imprinted polymer matrix, with methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a functional monomer and a cross-linking agent, respectively. The composition and structure of ZnIP and NIP were characterized using various physicochemical methods.

This research describes the synthesis and characterization of a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as a candidate for the transdermal delivery of curcumin. The MIP was synthesized through precipitation polymerization using methacrylic acid as the functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linking agent. MIP characterization studies were conducted using SEM-EDX and FTIR spectroscopy to determine the morphology and interaction between curcumin and polymers.

With the development and improvement of analysis and detection systems, low-toxicity and harmless detection systems have received much attention, especially in the field of food detection. In this paper, a low-toxicity dual-emission molecularly imprinted fluorescence sensor (CdTe QDs@SiO/N-CDs@MIPs) was successfully designed for highly selective recognition and visual detection of tetracycline (TC) in food samples. Specifically, the non-toxic blue-emission N-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) with high luminous performance acted as the response signals to contact TC via the covalent bond between amino and carboxyl groups.

Mycotoxins are a group of toxic metabolites produced by fungi that infect agricultural products. Consuming mycotoxin-contaminated foods and feeds can cause various adverse health effects in humans and animals. Therefore, developing rapid and sensitive analytical methods for detecting mycotoxins is an urgent task.

This paper explores the use of large core declad optical fibers coated with molecularly imprinted polymers for chlorpyrifos detection, a key marker of organophosphate pesticides. The performance of sensor is evaluated using artificial neural networks and principal component analysis. By varying the declad length, the performance of molecularly imprinted polymer-coated fibers is compared to uncoated fibers, and both are used to identify commercial and pure samples of chlorpyrifos pesticides.
