The anti-biofouling properties have important applications in the medical field. In this study, cross-linked networks were prepared by photopolymerizing two synthetic macromonomers, including fumaric acid monoethyl ester (FAME) functionalized, three-armed poly(l-lactide) prepolymers (3-PLLA-F) and poly(ε-caprolactone) prepolymers (2-PCL-F), with -vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) as the diluent. The prepared networks were characterized by their thermal properties, mechanical properties, cytotoxicity experiments and anti-biofouling properties. The Young's modulus and tensile strength of networks decreased by increasing PCL content. In contrast, the elongation of networks significantly increased. Moreover, no obvious cytotoxicity was observed, and the adhesion of L929 fibroblasts and platelets was resisted. Combined with Digital Light Processing technology (DLP) in the future, the designed polymer network could potentially be commercial in the field of biological anti-fouling materials.

Many aquatic organisms utilize suction-based organs to adhere to diverse substrates in unpredictable environments. For multiple fish species, these adhesive discs include a softer disc margin consisting of surface structures called papillae, which stabilize and seal on variable substrates. The size, arrangement, and density of these papillae are quite diverse among different species, generating complex disc patterns produced by these structures.

Multifunctional coatings have great application value in the protection of Marine equipment, ships and ship facilities, but they still suffer from the disadvantages of high preparation cost and complicated synthesis methods. Herein, employing a simple method to synthesize black carbon nitride (BCN), as the filler in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) to construct BCN/PDMS composite coating with a multifunctional anti-corrosion/antifouling coating capable of photothermal self-healing property. Experimental results exhibit that the BCN/PDMS coating can still possesses excellent corrosion resistance after 28 d of immersion in the simulated seawater, and the impedance modulus still manages to reach 6.

Carbon material is a hot topic in solar evaporation. Due to the widely distributed microorganisms in natural water, biofouling has limited the actual application of solar evaporation material. Although carbon material lacks of nutrition for microbe, it is still vulnerable to biofouling because of the efficient pollutant adsorption property.

Antiadhesive coatings have been extensively studied owing to their wide applications in biology, environment, and energy. However, developing a mechanically robust coating with broad-spectrum antiadhesion properties remains challenging. Herein, a novel strategy for preparing hard yet flexible and self-adaptive zwitterionic polysilazane coatings with broad-spectrum antiadhesion properties (anti-biofouling, anti-liquid adhesion, and anti-scaling) is proposed.
