The effect of cooling process after calcination at 900 °C in the preparation of cathode materials, on the crystal structure and charging/discharging capacities of LiMnO-LiNiMnO-LiNiMnCoO Li-rich solid-solution layered oxide (LLO) cathode materials for the lithium ion battery was examined in twenty-one LLO samples having different compositions. This was achieved by applying two types of cooling processes: (i) quenching the calcinated LLO samples with liquid nitrogen (quenched cooling), and (ii) slow cooling of LLO samples in the furnace at a controlled decreasing rate of the temperature (slow cooling). The results of the comparison between discharging capacities observed with LLO samples prepared with two types of cooling processes indicated that the cooling process for LLO samples to exhibit high discharge capacity was not limited to either one. The process that can be more effective for LLO samples to exhibit the high discharge capacity depended on the composition of LLO samples. LLO samples containing LiMnO of over 60% exhibited higher discharge capacity when samples were quenched with liquid nitrogen than those prepared with the slow cooling process. Among LLOs examined, the effect of quenching was maximum when the LiMnO content was 60%. As the LLO composition deviated from the line of 60% LiMnO in the Li[LiMnNiCo]O sample compositions, the effect of quenching became smaller and the slow cooling process was superior to the quenching process. A connection was thus made between the structural difference of LLO samples prepared with the two types of cooling processes and the cathode performance was observed.

Background: The intracellular bacterium Listeria monocytogenes is an attractive vector for cancer immunotherapy as it can effectively deliver tumor antigens to antigen-presenting cells, leading to a robust antitumor response.

Results: In this study, we developed a novel vaccine platform called Listeria-based Live Attenuated Double Substitution (LADS), which involves introducing two amino acid substitutions (N478AV479A) into the virulence factor listeriolysin O (LLO). LADS is a safe vaccine platform, with an attenuation of nearly 7000-fold, while retaining complete immunogenicity due to the absence of deletion of any virulence factors.

Listeriosis is highly prevalent in the animal farming industry, with as the causative pathogen. To identify potential therapeutic targets for LM infection, we investigated the mechanisms of LM infection in goat uteri. We inoculated a group of goats with LM via jugular vein injection, isolated and raised them, and subsequently collected sterile samples of their uterine tissue after they exhibited clinical symptoms of LM infection.

Li-rich Mn-based layered oxides have been considered as the most promising cathode candidate for high energy density lithium ion batteries. However, the practical application of Li-rich Mn-based layered oxides is hindered due to the capacity fading and voltage decay accompanied with structure transition from the layered structure to spinel phase during cycling. Herein, a facile surface structure repair Ce modification is reported.

Introduction: Lower limb orthoses (LLOs) and assistive devices (ADs) can be used together or separately to improve mobility when performing daily activities. The goal of this study was to examine utilization of LLOs and ADs in a national sample of adult LLO users.

Methods: A survey was designed to ask participants whether they typically use their LLOs and/or ADs to perform 20 daily activities.

Transcriptomes and proteomes can be normalized with a handful of RNAs or proteins (or their peptides), such as GAPDH, β-actin, RPBMS, and/or GAP43. Even with hundreds of standards, normalization cannot be achieved across different molecular mass ranges for small molecules, such as lipids and metabolites, due to the non-linearity of mass by charge ratio for even the smallest part of the spectrum. We define the amount (or range of amounts) of metabolites and/or lipids per a defined amount of a protein, consistently identified in all samples of a multiple-model organism comparison, as the normative level of that metabolite or lipid.
