As is well known, it is difficult to simultaneously improve both the strength and elongation at break of polymers filled with nanomaterials. This work obtained high-performance composites with enhanced strength and elongation at break cross-linking hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) chains with hyperbranched-polyamide-modified graphene oxide (HGO), and the preparation, characterization, and mechanical properties of the composites serving as a composite solid-propellant binder have been described in detail. Compared with pure HTPB polyurethane (P-HTPB), the tensile strength and elastic modulus of the composite containing 0.1 wt% HGO (H-0.1/HTPB) increase by 57.8% and 65.3%, respectively. Notably, the elongation at break of the H-0.1/HTPB composite can reach up to 1292.6%, which is even higher than that of P-HTPB. Moreover, the capabilities of the composites to resist deformation have also been enhanced significantly. The glass transition temperatures of the composites are still extremely low (∼-73 °C), which is beneficial for their applications. It can be expected that this study can provide an effective fabrication approach and strategy for preparing high-performance polyurethane composites.

Construction of core-shell structured electrocatalysts with a thin noble metal shell is an effective strategy for lowering the usage of the noble metal and improving electrocatalytic properties because of the structure-induced geometric and electronic effects. Here, the synthesis of a novel core-shell structured nanocatalyst consisting of a thin amorphous Pd shell and a crystalline PdCu core and its significantly improved electrocatalytic properties for both formic acid oxidation and oxygen reduction reactions are shown. The electrocatalyst exhibits 4.

Polysaccharides represent the most abundant biopolymers in agri-food wastes and thus are the most studied polymers to produce biodegradable films for use in packaging. Starch is among the major polysaccharides extracted from food and agricultural waste that have been used as precursor material for film production. Therefore, the present study aimed at producing an active film with antimicrobial properties using starch extracted from cassava waste and oil extracted from cloves.

Herbal dust, a waste byproduct from filter-tea production, was annealed to form ash that can be incorporated into natural rubber as an eco-friendly filler. Three types of herbal dust ash (HDA), green tea, hibiscus, and lemon balm, were added at two different contents, 2.5 and 5 phr, into the rubber compound, while the content of carbon black, as a filler, was maintained at 50 phr in all samples.

This study focuses on the extraction of phenolic compounds from the fermentation of and . The main goal was to synthesize phenol/chitosan microspheres and PVA films and characterized using FTIR, TGA, DSC, SEM, and mechanical tests to evaluate their physical, chemical, and mechanical properties for antimicrobial packaging applications. Homogeneous chitosan microspheres loaded with lignin-derived phenols were obtained, showing controlled release of antimicrobial compounds.
