The double sulfates with the general formula NaM(SO)·HO (M = Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, = 2 or 4) are being considered as materials for electrodes in sodium-based batteries or as precursors for such materials. These sulfates belong structurally to the blödite ( = 4) and kröhnkite ( = 2) family and the M cations considered in this work were Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn. Using a combination of calorimetric methods, we have measured enthalpies of formation and entropies of these phases, calculated their Gibbs free energies (Δ °) of formation and evaluated their stability with respect to NaSO, simple sulfates MSO·HO, and liquid water, if appropriate. The Δ ° values (all data in kJ mol) are: NaNi(SO)·4HO: -3032.4 ± 1.9, NaMg(SO)·4HO: -3432.3 ± 1.7, NaCo(SO)·4HO: -3034.4 ± 1.9, NaZn(SO)·4HO: -3132.6 ± 1.9, NaMn(SO)·2HO: -2727.3 ± 1.8. The data allow the stability of these phases to be assessed with respect to NaSO, MSO·HO and HO(l). NaNi(SO)·4HO is stable with respect to NaSO, NiSO and HO(l) by a significant amount of ≈50 kJ mol whereas NaMn(SO)·2HO is stable with respect to NaSO, MnSO and HO(l) only by ≈25 kJ mol. The values for the other blödite-kröhnkite phases lie in between. When considering the stability with respect to higher hydrates, the stability margin decreases; for example, NaNi(SO)·4HO is still stable with respect to NaSO, NiSO·4HO and HO(l), but only by ≈20 kJ mol. Among the phases studied and chemical reactions considered, the Na-Ni phase is the most stable one, and the Na-Mn, Na-Co, and Na-Cu phases show lower stability.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed by plastic surgeons and otolaryngologists. Previous studies have concluded that the readability of rhinoplasty information does not meet the recommended guidelines for the 8th grade reading level. In this study, we performed an updated readability analysis and a comprehensive online review of decision-making factors for patients considering rhinoplasty.

Wasabi is a type of sauce made from the plant horseradish. During its production and storage, gas production sometimes occurs, which leads to changes in the flavor quality of wasabi. In this study, an electronic nose, electronic tongue, headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry combined with multivariate statistical analysis were used to compare the differences in odor, taste and volatile components between normal and gas-producing wasabi.

This retrospective study aimed to compare the efficacy of portable ear endoscopic tympanic injection versus conventional ear endoscopic tympanic injection in the treatment of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL) and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Clinical data of 128 patients with ISSNHL who did not respond to conventional treatment were collected from January 2019 to June 2023. Patients were divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (n = 60) received portable ear endoscopic tympanic injection, while Group 2 (n = 68) received conventional ear endoscopic tympanic injection.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) contains high platelet concentration and growth factors that help in rapid wound healing, hemostasis, and decreased scarring. It has been used in various conditions to aid in healing, but its use in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) is not yet common.  To compare the outcome of using PRP with myringoplasty with that of myringoplasty alone in the repair of tympanic membrane perforations.

Metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma is a rare entity that has the propensity for distant metastasis despite being histologically benign. We report the case of a 56-year-old woman with a long-standing right upper neck swelling and a recent-onset swelling over the left side of the scalp. Clinical workup did not reveal any other tumor deposits in the body.
