Translocating individuals from multiple source populations is one way to bolster genetic variation and avoid inbreeding in newly established populations. However, mixing isolated populations, especially from islands, can potentially lead to outbreeding depression and/or assortative mating, which may limit interbreeding between source populations. Here, we investigated genetic consequences of mixing individuals from two island populations of the dibbler () in an island translocation.

The human genome consists of 23 chromosome pairs (22 autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes), with 46 chromosomes in a normal cell. In the interphase nucleus, the 2 m long nuclear DNA is assembled with proteins forming chromatin. The typical mammalian cell nucleus has a diameter between 5 and 15 μm in which the DNA is packaged into an assortment of chromatin assemblies.

Background: Investigating brain metabolic networks is crucial for understanding the pathogenesis and functional alterations in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). However, studies on presymptomatic individuals remain limited. This study aimed to examine metabolic network topology reconfiguration in asymptomatic carriers of the PRNP G114V mutation.

Background: The social contact data for Japan as of 2022 showed a substantially decreased number of contacts compared with before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is unclear whether social contact continues to be depressed following the end of countermeasures against the pandemic. There is also scarce evidence regarding the influence of influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) on social contacts in Japan.

The current study investigates the use of mixed-mode chromatography as a combination of anion-exchange (AEX) and hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC) for the analysis and purification of single-stranded antisense oligonucleotides with stereo-controlled phosphorothioate inter- nucleotide linkages. Initially a Scherzo-SS-C18 trimodal stationary phase with reversed-phase/AEX/ cation-exchange (CEX) functionalities is systematically evaluated to reveal the presence of U-shaped retention composed of two retention modes namely AEX and HIC, where the latter was also observed on related trimodal Scherzo SM and SW analogues. For the first time, retention and separation of deprotected oligonucleotides was described on a single mixed-mode column using a combination of AEX and HIC.
