Detection and isolation of typical gut indigenous bacteria in ICR mice fed wheat bran and wheat straw fibre. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

  • - The study investigates the impact of wheat bran (WB) and wheat straw fiber (WSF), by-products of the wheat flour industry, on gut bacteria in mice by comparing diets with varying fiber content.
  • - Mice were fed diets with no fiber, 10% WB, or 5% WSF over 14 days, and researchers analyzed the gut microbiome using advanced sequencing techniques to identify which bacteria thrived in each diet.
  • - Results showed higher populations of specific bacteria in the WB group, with isolated strains Wheat-1 and Wheat-12 demonstrating effective fermentation capabilities and increased antioxidant activity after fermentation of WB.

Article Abstract

Wheat bran (WB) and wheat straw fibre (WSF) are by-products of the wheat flour industry. To prove the existence of indigenous gut bacteria responsible for WB and WSF, the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice were fed a diet containing no fibre (CS), 10% WB, or 5% WSF for 14 d. The caecal microbiome was analysed by 16S rDNA (V4 region) amplicon sequencing. Typical colonies were isolated and estimated by 16S rRNA gene BLASTn analysis. The predominant amplicon sequence variants in all diet groups belonged to - and like bacteria. - and -like bacteria were high in the WB group compared with those in the CS group. Wheat-1 and Wheat-12 strains could be isolated. Wheat-1 exhibited good fermentation activity in 10% (w/v) WB suspension. Superoxide anion radical scavenging capacity of the WB suspension was significantly increased by the fermentation.

Calcium release from the endoplasmic reticulum via sperm-derived phospholipase C zeta is crucial for oocyte activation during fertilization. Chloroquine (CQ) inhibits the increase in cytoplasmic calcium. This study investigated the effects of CQ on fertilization and oocyte activation.

Purpose: Even though smoking is associated with lung cancer, the exact molecular pathways that link carcinogens with inflammation and oncogenic transformation are not well elucidated. Two major carcinogens in cigarette smoke, Nicotine-derived nitrosamine ketone, 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) and benzo(α)pyrene (BaP) have not been tested in models that mimic inhaled exposure for prolonged periods of time.

Experimental Design: ICR mice were treated with intratracheal delivery of NNK and BaP (NB) for 18 months.

This study aims to reveal the effects and mechanisms of different fractions of Polygonati Rhizoma on the reproductive dysfunction in male mice with kidney essence deficiency due to excess of sexual intercourse. Fifty male ICR mice with good sexual function were selected and randomized into normal(NC), model(MC), n-butanol fraction of Polygonati Rhizoma(0.4 g·kg~(-1), HJCT), remaining fraction of Polygonati Rhizoma(0.

This study aims to investigate the effect and potential mechanism of Polygonati Rhizoma aqueous extract in protecting mice from gastric mucosal injury(stomach Yin deficiency). ICR mice were administrated with the mixture of pungent substance extract and alcohol by gavage once a day for 6 weeks to establish the mouse model of gastric mucosal injury with gastric Yin deficiency. The modeled mice were randomized into three groups of model and Polygonati Rhizoma aqueous extract administrated at 0.

Objective: Ovarian tissue cryopreservation has become a promising alternative for fertility preservation in cancer patients, allowing ovarian tissue to be stored for future autotransplantation. Oxidative stress damage occurring during the cryopreservation process may impact tissue quality and function. This study aims to investigate the protective effects and potential mechanisms of Mitoquinone (MitoQ), a mitochondria-targeted derivative of the antioxidant ubiquinone, during the vitrification of ovarian tissue in mice.
