[Microcalorimetric study of Salmonella].

Zentralbl Bakteriol Mikrobiol Hyg A

Published: November 1986

We investigated the heat production of 42 different Salmonella strains belonging to the serogroups A, B, C, D and E. Using Columbia- and Brain Heart Infusion Broth as growth media, we found 3 different types of heat profiles. Salmonella typhi and Salmonella choleraesuis showed thermograms which differed in shape from the remaining serotypes. The thermograms of one Salmonella dublin isolate which showed an atypical biochemical behaviour could not be put into proper relation to one of these 3 microcalorimetric types.

Ester collectors have rapidly developed into the main flotation collectors for copper sulfide minerals since they were developed. In this study, the collecting performance of four collectors, O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate ester (IPETC), 3-pentyl xanthate acrylate ester (PXA), O-isobutyl-N-allyl-thionocarbamate (IBALTC), and O-isobutyl-N-isobutoxycarbonyl-thionocarbamate (IBIBCTC), was investigated through microflotation tests, microcalorimetric measurements, and quantum chemical calculations. The results of the microflotation tests show that IBALTC and IPETC have stronger collecting abilities than IBIBCTC and PXA; the order of collecting ability is IBALTC > IPETC > IBIBCTC > PXA.

The gut microbiota significantly contributes to human health and well-being. The aim of this study was to evaluate the stability and resilience of a consortium composed of three next-generation probiotics (NGPs) candidates originally found in the human gut. The growth patterns of Akkermansia muciniphila, Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii were studied both individually and consortium.

Ubiquitous purine sensor modulates diverse signal transduction pathways in bacteria.

Purines and their derivatives control intracellular energy homeostasis and nucleotide synthesis, and act as signaling molecules. Here, we combine structural and sequence information to define a purine-binding motif that is present in sensor domains of thousands of bacterial receptors that modulate motility, gene expression, metabolism, and second-messenger turnover. Microcalorimetric titrations of selected sensor domains validate their ability to specifically bind purine derivatives, and evolutionary analyses indicate that purine sensors share a common ancestor with amino-acid receptors.

Anion-Binding Properties of Short Linear Homopeptides.

Int J Mol Sci

May 2024

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Horvatovac 102a, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia.

A comprehensive thermodynamic and structural study of the complexation affinities of tetra (), penta (), and hexaphenylalanine () linear peptides towards several inorganic anions in acetonitrile (MeCN) and ,-dimethylformamide (DMF) was carried out. The influence of the chain length on the complexation thermodynamics and structural changes upon anion binding are particularly addressed here. The complexation processes were characterized by means of spectrofluorimetric, H NMR, microcalorimetric, and circular dichroism spectroscopy titrations.

Exploring solute binding proteins in Pseudomonas aeruginosa that bind to γ-aminobutyrate and 5-aminovalerate and their role in activating sensor kinases.

The standard method of receptor activation involves the binding of signals or signal-loaded solute binding proteins (SBPs) to sensor domains. Many sensor histidine kinases (SHKs), which are activated by SBP binding, are encoded adjacent to their corresponding sbp gene. We examined three SBPs of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1, encoded near the genes for the AgtS (PA0600) and AruS (PA4982) SHKs, to determine how common this arrangement is.
