Waldenström macroglobulinemia is a rare cancer of plasma cells characterized by the excessive production of immunoglobulin M (IgM). IgM-associated systemic amyloid light chain (AL) amyloidosis is a rare complication of Waldenström macroglobulinemia, characterized by the misfolding of lambda light chains that deposit in various organs, including the heart. We describe a case of progressive nonischemic cardiomyopathy secondary to Waldenström macroglobulinemia and IgM-associated AL amyloidosis that was refractory to medical therapy and highlight the challenges in diagnosis and management.

Prolongation of the activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) may signify an intrinsic factor deficiency or the presence of an inhibitor of coagulation, potentially placing a patient at increased risk for bleeding. However, a contact factor (ie, factor XII, prekallikrein, and high molecular weight kininogen) deficiency, which may also cause a prolonged aPTT, is not associated with clinical bleeding. A 71-year-old female had an isolated prolonged aPTT discovered during preoperative laboratory testing.

Introduction: Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase II (CPT II) deficiency encompasses a spectrum of disorders, with the lethal neonatal form (LNF) representing the rarest and most severe. While there are numerous gene variants that can cause CPT II deficiency, only 16 variants of these are known to be associated with LNF. This report presents the case of a neonatal male diagnosed with lethal CPT II deficiency, characterized by the presence of two heterogeneous variants.

The adsorption of (X = Ni, Pd, and Pt) nanoclusters is simulated by using first-principles methods on MgO(100) and on a MgO monolayer supported on Ag(100), considering the presence of interfacial oxygen. On both the free-standing MgO surface and MgO/Ag, all clusters exhibit robust adhesion and negative charge transfer. molecular dynamics calculations at 200 K demonstrate the stability of the nanoparticles on the MgO/Ag support.

Purpose: The management of irreducible, sagittally unstable peritrochanteric fractures presents a significant challenge due to the inability to achieve closed reduction using conventional techniques. This study introduces a novel minimally invasive technique leveraging the mechanical advantage principle with long, angled hemostatic clamps.

Methods: A retrospective review was performed on 16 patients who sustained sagittally unstable peritrochanteric fractures and underwent a percutaneous hemostatic clamp leverage reduction procedure.
