Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells provide great efficacy in B cell malignancies. However, improved CAR T cell therapies are still needed. Here, we engineered tumor-targeted CAR T cells to constitutively express the immune-stimulatory molecule CD40 ligand (CD40L) and explored efficacy in different mouse leukemia/lymphoma models.

Loved one's body in the anatomy laboratory.

Anat Rec B New Anat

March 2004

School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of New South Wales, New South Wales, Australia.

An Australian medical student recognized parts of her father's body during classes in an anatomy laboratory and suffered considerable trauma as a consequence. While the risk of a further case may be small, the potential for trauma could be minimized by adopting appropriate policy and procedures. Institutions that receive donations of bodies may benefit from considering suggestions for minimizing that risk and for responding appropriately should it ever occur.

Using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) with degenerate oligonucleotides corresponding to two highly conserved motifs within the protein kinase family of catalytic domains, we isolated a PCR fragment encoding a novel member of the testis-specific serine/threonine kinases (STK) from mouse male mixed germ cell mRNA. This PCR fragment recognized a 1020-bp transcript in male germ cells by northern blot analysis and was used to clone a full-length cDNA from a mouse mixed germ cell cDNA library. This cDNA has an open reading frame of 804 bases encoding a protein of 268 amino acids.

We have studied the endocrine-metabolic status of patients in non-insulin-receiving (NIR) remission of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) within 6-60 mo of diagnosis during administration of cyclosporine, in comparison with nondiabetic subjects. IDDM patients in NIR remission were recognized when target glycemic control (plasma glucose and mean capillary blood glucose levels less than 7.8 mM before meals) was maintained without administration of insulin for at least 2 wk.
