In homogeneous solid-state reactions, the single-crystal nature of the starting material remains unchanged, and the system evolves seamlessly through a series of solid solutions of reactant and product. Among [2+2] photodimerizations of cinnamic acid derivatives in the solid state, those involving salts of the 4-aminocinnamic acid have been recognized to proceed homogeneously in a "single-crystal-to-single-crystal" fashion by X-ray diffraction techniques. Here the bromide salt of this compound class is taken as a model system in a Raman spectroscopy study at low wavelengths, to understand how such a mechanism defines the trend of the crystal lattice vibrations during the reaction. Vibrational mode calculations, based on dispersion corrected DFT simulations of the crystal lattices involved in the transformation, have assisted the interpretation of the experiments. Such an approach has allowed us to clarify the spectral signatures and to establish a correlation between the dynamics of the monomer and dimer systems in a process where chemical progress and crystal structural changes are demonstrated to occur simultaneously.

This study presents the synthesis of a Cd(II) based hydrophobic three dimensional crystalline network material (CNM), [Cd(L)(LH)(bpe)], {L = {4,4'-(hexafluroisopropylidine)bis(benzoate)} and 1,2-di(4-pyridyl) ethylene (bpe)}, 1(Cd), by employing the slow-diffusion method. The three-dimensional structure of 1(Cd) was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Subsequently, post-synthetic modification of 1(Cd) with Cu(II) at room temperature led to the formation of isostructural 1(Cu) with partial substitution.

Bismuth(III)-based complexes have garnered increasing attention in fluorescence sensing due to their environmentally friendly and sustainable characteristics. A Bismuth(III) coordination polymer (CP),1-Cl based on a naphthalene diimides(NDI)-pyridinium is synthesized by an in situ reaction method. Notable for its sensitivity to visible light, 1-Cl shows excellent photochromic properties, and the integration of NDI and pyridinium in one ligand makes photogenerated radicals more stable.

The modification of metal-organic framework (MOF) materials to facilitate their practical applications is an extremely challenging and meaningful topic. In this work, two stepwise modification strategies for MOFs were conducted. First, we have demonstrated a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformation from a microporous three-dimensional (3D) MOF to a two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer (CP).

This work reports the interesting and unique cation-exchange behaviors of the first indium-bridged purely inorganic 3D framework based on high-nuclearity polyoxoniobates as building units. Each nanoscale polyoxoniobate features a fascinating near-icosahedral core-shell structure with six pairs of unique inorganic "molecular tweezers" that have changeable openings for binding different metal cations via ion-exchanges and exhibit unusual selective metal-uptake behaviors. Further, the material has high chemical stability so that can undergo single-crystal-to-single-crystal metal-exchange processes to produce a dozen new crystals with high crystallinity.

In this work, the single crystal to single crystal (SCSC) transformations in three mononuclear copper complexes [Cu]Cl·2HO (), [CuCl] (), and [Cu]Cl·4HO () ( = di-2-pyridyl ketone, = di(pyridin-2-yl)methanediol) are realized by the irreversible dehydration and hydration reaction of and . Dark purple crystal is obtained by self-assembly of and CuCl·2HO in solvothermal reactions, in which the carbonyl group of undergoes a hydration addition reaction to form . On heating, transforms to by dehydrating water accompanied by the change of the color and coordination octahedron of Cu ions.
