Determining the concentrations of different Sn ions in glass containing iron oxide by wet chemical analysis is a challenge because a redox reaction occurs between Sn and Fe. A chemical analysis method for determining the concentrations of Sn and Sn in soda lime glass containing iron oxide was proposed. A mixture of ascorbic acid, hydrochloric acid, and hydrofluoric acid was used to decompose the sample in a vessel with nitrogen flow. Ascorbic acid functioned as a reductant for Fe. Subsequently, the Sn were separated as a diethyldithiocarbamate complex. Furthermore, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy was used to determine the concentrations of Sn and total Sn, from which the concentration of Sn can be calculated. The results were validated by comparing ratios of Sn to total Sn to results obtained using Mössbauer spectroscopy. The results were in agreement, thereby validating the use of the proposed approach.

With the growing demand for nickel in the stainless steel and battery industries, conventional methods of extracting nickel from ores face challenges such as high production costs and environmental concerns. This study proposes a new process for the recovery of nickel metal and the production of nickel-iron alloys from nickel-bearing scrap. The reduction rates of nickel and iron oxides were investigated by optimizing the roasting temperature, time, and C/O ratio, and the process was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM).

Utilizing aerosol jet printing (AJP), this study achieves a breakthrough in fabricating luminescent fibers with superior optical performance and flexibility. The YO:Eu coated high silica glass fibers demonstrate luminous efficiency twice that of traditional methods, retaining 80% after 250 bending cycles and 90% after sweat immersion. This AJP technique not only elevates the potential of smart fabrics but also represents a significant innovation in lighting technology, providing new ideas for advanced functional fiber fabrication.

The rise and spread of ancient Indian Ocean Rim (IOR) trade networks profoundly impacted southern Africa. Control over this trade played a critical role in the rise and maintenance of complex societies of the second millennium CE such as Mapungubwe and Great Zimbabwe. While the African origins of this trade lie in the first millennium CE, understanding its earliest phases and subsequent development in the far south has been hampered by a general paucity of research.

We present a case of a young woman who presented with blurring of vision in her right eye, worsening on near work. Detailed ophthalmic and neurological evaluation was done, which revealed light near dissociation, vermiform iris movements, constriction to diluted pilocarpine with absent deep tendon reflexes. Laboratory investigation indicated mild iron deficiency anemia and reduced vitamin D3 level.

Proteases, an important class of enzymes that cleave proteins and peptides, carry a wealth of potentially useful information. Devices to enable routine and cost effective measurement of their activity could find frequent use in clinical settings for medical diagnostics, as well as some industrial contexts such as detecting on-line biological contamination. In particular, devices that make use of readouts involving magnetic particles may offer distinct advantages for continuous sensing because material they release can be magnetically captured downstream and their readout is insensitive to optical properties of the sample.
