The Sword of Damocles: Microplastics and the molecular dynamics of sulfamonomethoxine revealed.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

October 2024

College of Resources and Environment, Northeast Agricultural University, No.600 Changjiang Road, Xiangfang District, Harbin 150030, China. Electronic address:

In recent years, the environmental impact of microplastics (MPs) and antibiotics (ATs) as pollutants cannot be ignored. In order to evaluate the carrier effect of MPs in the aqueous environment, three MPs, polyamide (PA), polyethylene (PE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), were selected in this study, and their structures were analyzed by means of characterization. A preliminary description of their interactions with sulfamonomethoxine was carried out by adsorption kinetics and isotherm fitting.

Recent Advances in Nanomaterials for the Treatment of Acute Kidney Injury.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

Department of Urology, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430030, China.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious clinical syndrome with high morbidity, elevated mortality, and poor prognosis, commonly considered a "sword of Damocles" for hospitalized patients, especially those in intensive care units. Oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis, caused by the excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), play a key role in AKI progression. Hence, the investigation of effective and safe antioxidants and inflammatory regulators to scavenge overexpressed ROS and regulate excessive inflammation has become a promising therapeutic option.
