Bisphenol A (BPA) is a widely used endocrine disruptor, which has attracted much attention due to its harmful effects on male reproduction. To investigate the interference of BPA on steroid synthesis in males, male rare minnows (Gobiocypris rarus) were exposed to 15 μg L BPA for 7, 14 and 21 d. Meanwhile, a positive control group was performed with 25 ng L 17α-ethynyl estradiol (EE2). Results showed that BPA exposure induced lower testosterone (T) levels, while affecting the transcripts of steroidogenic gene StAR. Moreover, BPA induced abnormal germ cells proliferation in the testis in rare minnow. Transcriptome analysis showed that 354 transcripts significantly differentially expressed after BPA exposure for 14 d, several of them were enriched in the signaling pathways of cell cycle process, PPAR signaling pathway, the steroid synthesis pathway and estrogen signaling pathway. BPA significantly increased estrogen receptor (ER) levels and induced abnormal protein levels of PPARγ. BPA disrupted the StAR expression by interfering ER enrichments within StAR 5' flanking region. Additionally, our study also revealed that BPA and EE2 might have different mechanisms for interfering with steroid hormone levels and germ cells proliferation in the testis.

Bisphenols can enter the body, where they have potential adverse effects on human health, via different routes such as inhalation, dermally or orally. They are known as endocrine disrupting chemicals that activate signaling pathways by mimicking the estrogen actions. In this study, we aimed to investigate effects of bisphenol A (BPA), and its analogues bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS) on MCF-10A cells and their impact mechanisms on autophagy, apoptosis and reduced glutathion levels.

Although trivalent manganese (Mn(III)) species have been recognized as crucial intermediates in the degradation of organic contaminants by Mn oxides, quantitative research on their specific roles remains scarce. Our study investigated the degradation processes of an organic pollutant, Bisphenol A (BPA), by dissolved Mn(III) and Mn(III)-bearing oxides, and elucidated the differences of the underlying mechanisms and reaction pathways between several Mn oxides and dissolved Mn(III). Our results indicated that BPA degradation rates with Mn(III)-bearing oxides alone follow the order: δ-MnO ≫ γ-MnOOH > MnO.

Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine disrupting chemical, is an environmental toxicant widely used in the production of polycarbonate plastics, epoxy resins and paints. Ganoderma lucidum (GDL) is a plant with biological activities widely used in Chinese medicine. The present study aims to determine the effects of GDL against testicular dysfunction in rats exposed to BPA.

Introduction: Lipid screening identifies at-risk patients to facilitate cardiovascular risk reduction. National pediatric guidelines recommend universal lipid screening between 9-11 and 17-21 years of age. We aimed to improve adherence to lipid screening for all age-appropriate outpatient pediatric cardiology visits from a baseline of 35% to 90% between November 2021 and July 2023.

Phthalates and bisphenols, ubiquitous compounds found in various everyday products, have garnered attention due to their potential health-disrupting effects. This study aimed to (1) investigate urinary phthalate metabolites and bisphenol A (BPA) levels in donors and recipients prior to allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and monitor changes in these compounds in pediatric recipients at different time points (Day-9, Day 0, Day+7, Day+28, Day+90), and (2) assess their association with engraftment success. Urine samples from pediatric recipients and donors were collected for analysis of phthalate metabolites and BPA in 34 donor-recipient pairs.
