Article Synopsis
  • Surgical planning for anterior shoulder instability (ASI) requires accurate glenoid bone defect measurements, but existing methods are often complicated or impractical.
  • The study developed a new measurement technique using CT scans that simplifies the assessment of anterior glenoid bone defects while maintaining accuracy.
  • Results indicated that the new proportional method produced similar measurements to other established methods, with a convenient calculation of glenoid width based on height, while the CT-specific formula showed significant deviations in defect size and ratio.

The risks and benefits associated with simultaneous bilateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) continue to engender contentious debate. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of simultaneous bilateral and unilateral UKA. A retrospective review was performed between 2019 and 2022 on 280 patients (130 simultaneous bilateral vs.

The brain is highly innervated by sympathetic nerve fibres; however, their physiological purpose is poorly understood. We hypothesized that unilateral cerebral norepinephrine (NE) spillover, an index of cerebral sympathetic nerve activity (SNA), would be elevated when engaging the baroreflex [via lower-body negative pressure (LBNP; -20 and -40 Torr)] and respiratory chemoreflexes [via carbon dioxide (CO) administration (+8 Torr)], independently, and in combination. Twelve young and healthy participants (5 females) underwent simultaneous blood sampling from the right radial artery and internal jugular vein.

Selective midfacial neurectomy for postparalytic facial nerve syndrome.

November 2024

Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Ichikawa General Hospital, Tokyo Dental College, Ichikawa, Japan.

Chemodenervation with botulinum A toxin and neuromuscular retraining therapy are commonly performed as first-line treatments for postparalytic facial nerve syndrome (PFS). However, their effects are temporary, and side effects typically develop. Currently available selective neurectomy approaches are limited by variations in the anatomy of the peripheral branches of the facial nerve and the ability to reduce perioral synkinesis, but not periocular synkinesis.

To quantitatively analyze and explore the characteristics, influencing factors, reference value range, and variability of electromyography and nerve evoked potential in normal laryngeal muscles. The study included 480 patients diagnosed with unilateral vocal fold immobility and underwent laryngeal electromyography (LEMG) at Beijing Tongren Hospital from June 2012 to June 2022, including 259 males and 221 females, with an average age of (44.4±14.
