Since July 2007 prospective life-long follow-up (FU) for unrelated (URD) and related donors (RD) is mandatory in Switzerland and data on every allogeneic haematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC) donation are collected prospectively. We report the real-world experience of HPC donation during a 10-year study period (01.07.2007-30.06.2017) with basic characteristics and FU data. 1105 donors underwent 1155 HPC donation procedures. Eighty percent of first donations performed by 802 (73%) RDs and 303 (27%) URDs were peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC), 20% bone marrow (BM). Male donors were over-represented as URD (60% male vs 40% female). Main differences between RDs and URDs concerned age and pre-existing health disorders. RDs were significantly older at first donation (median age 48 years) compared to URD (34 years, p < 0.0001) and had more pre-existing health problems: 25% vs 9% in URD (p < 0.0001). No fatal complications occurred, collection related severe adverse events (SAE) after first donation were not significantly different between groups (RD 1.2%, URD 0.99%), incidence rates for neoplastic and autoimmune diseases did not exceed the rates of the general population. RDs are a more heterogeneous and potentially more vulnerable group, but if donor evaluation is performed appropriately, HPC donation is still safe.

Objectives: New routes for supply of eye tissue are needed in the UK to support transplant surgery and medical research. Hospice care (HC) and Hospital-based Palliative care (HPC) services represent potential supply routes. This paper reports findings from the survey arm of the Eye Donation from Palliative and Hospice Care-Investigating potential, practice preference and perceptions study (EDiPPPP), objectives of which were to: i) Investigate existing practice in relation to eye donation across HC and HPC settings; ii) identify perceptions of HCPs toward embedding eye donation into routine end of life care planning; iii) investigate the informational, training, or support needs of clinicians regarding eye donation.

Background: There is a need to identify additional routes of supply for ophthalmic tissue in the UK due to deficits between supply and demand. In response to this need the NIHR funded study, Eye Donation from Palliative and Hospice Care: Investigating Potential, Practice, Preference, and Perceptions) (EDiPPPP) project was developed in partnership with NHSBT Tissue Services ( now Organ Tissue Donation and Transplantation).
Aim: This presentation will report findings from work package one of EDiPPPP which aimed to: scope the size and clinical characteristics of the potential eye donation (ED) population via a large-scale, multi-site retrospective case notes review across England establishing: the size of the potential ED population; describe the clinical characteristics of the potential ED population and identify challenges for clinicians in applying the standard ED criteria for assessing patient eligibility.

Background Aims: Cold agglutinins are commonly identified in transfusion laboratories and are defined by their ability to agglutinate erythrocytes at 3-4°C, with most demonstrating a titer >64. Similarly, cryoglobulins can precipitate from plasma when temperatures drop below central body temperature, resulting in erythrocyte agglutination. Thankfully, disease associated from these autoantibodies is rare, but unfortunately, such temperature ranges are routinely encountered outside of the body's circulation, as in an extracorporeal circuit during hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC) collection or human cell therapy laboratory processing.
