Intranasally administrated fusion-inhibitory lipopeptides block SARS-CoV-2 infection in mice and enable long-term protective immunity.

We have assessed antiviral activity and induction of protective immunity of fusion-inhibitory lipopeptides derived from the C-terminal heptad-repeat domain of SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein in transgenic mice expressing human ACE2 (K18-hACE2). The lipopeptides block SARS-CoV-2 infection in cell lines and lung-derived organotypic cultures. Intranasal administration in mice allows the maintenance of homeostatic transcriptomic immune profile in lungs, prevents body-weight loss, decreases viral load and shedding, and protects mice from death caused by SARS-CoV-2 variants.

Non-colorectal Cancer Screening and Vaccinations in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Expert Review.

Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol

January 2025

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville FL. Electronic address:

Description: The aim of this American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Clinical Practice Update (CPU) is to provide best practice advice (BPA) statements for gastroenterologists and other health care providers who provide care to patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The focus is on IBD-specific screenings (excluding colorectal cancer screening, which is discussed separately) and vaccinations. We provide guidance to ensure that patients are up to date with the disease-specific cancer screenings, vaccinations, as well as advice for mental health and general wellbeing.

Background: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, there was a marked increase in alcohol consumption. COVID-19 superimposed on underlying liver disease notably worsens the outcome of many forms of liver injury. The goal of a current pilot study was to test the dual exposure of alcohol and COVID-19 infection in an experimental animal model of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD).

To investigate the efficacy and assess the safety of transnasal nebulisation of budesonide in children with adenoid hypertrophy. Children with adenoid hypertrophy who attended the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine between December 2021 and December 2022 were randomly assigned to budesonide high-dose group(Group A: budesonide 1 mg/dose + saline nasal rinse), budesonide low-dose group(Group B: budesonide 0.5 mg/dose + saline nasal rinse), and control group(Group C: saline nasal rinse), and each group 20 children were collected separately, The efficacy and safety of transnasal nebulisation of budesonide in children with adenoid hypertrophy were assessed by comparing the symptomatic VAS scores, adenoidal nasopharyngeal lateral radiographs A/N values, nocturnal sleep oximetry(SaO2), and the incidence of adverse events during the treatment period of 8-week in the three groups.

Development and Evaluation of a Novel Chimeric Genotype VII Newcastle Disease Vaccine: Overcoming Maternal Antibody Interference and Spray Administration.

Key Laboratory of Avian Bioproducts Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, School of Veterinary Medicine, Yangzhou University, Yangzhou 225009, China.

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) poses a significant threat to the poultry industry, with the emergence of genotype VII NDV leading to extensive outbreaks and economic losses. Vaccination is the primary means of controlling NDV, but the presence of maternal antibodies (MDAs) can interfere with the immunological effect of live virus vaccines. Thus, we constructed a chimeric NDV live virus vaccine, LX-OAI4S, by replacing the extracellular regions of the F and HN genes of the NDV LX strain with the corresponding regions of the A-VII vaccine strain.
