Background: In recent years, the Netherlands has experienced a notable increase in opioid prescriptions and associated fatalities. Emergency department (ED) patients exhibit relatively high rates of opioid use (15%) and misuse (23% of patients who present to the ED and use prescription opioids test positive for misuse). To mitigate opioid-related harm, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) advocates for the use of non-opioid analgesics and minimal opioid prescriptions.

Objective: To evaluate opioid consumption for 21 procedures over 4 years from the Michigan Surgical Quality Collaborative (MSQC) registry and update post-discharge prescribing guidelines.
Background: Opioids remain a common treatment for postoperative pain of moderate-to-severe intensity not adequately addressed by nonopioid analgesics, but excessive prescribing correlates with increased usage. This analysis provides updates and compares patient-reported consumption in response to new guidelines.

Introduction: Self-medication (SM) with non-opioid analgesics (NOAs) has become increasingly prevalent, with individuals using over-the-counter medications to manage pain and other symptoms without professional guidance. While NOAs are generally considered safe when used appropriately, misuse or overuse can lead to adverse effects, including gastrointestinal issues, liver damage, and renal problems.
Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, awareness, and attitudes regarding NOAs and their SM practices, including how these factors vary by demographic characteristics.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) stands for a prevailing gastrointestinal neoplasm, concomitant with considerable occurrence and lethality rate. Butorphanol, a synthetic opioid analgesic medication targeting the opiate receptor, has been recently reckoned to harbor anti-oncogenic properties. This study proposes to delineate the impacts of butorphanol on CRC and the interrelated response mechanism.
