Nanodiamonds with embedded nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers have emerged as promising magnetic field sensors, as hyperpolarizing agents in biological environments, as well as efficient tools for spin mechanics with levitating particles. These applications currently suffer from random environmental interactions with the diamond which implies poor control of the N-V direction. Here, we predict and report on a strong diamagnetism of a pure spin origin mediated by a population inversion close to a level crossing in the NV center electronic ground state. We show control of the sign of the magnetic susceptibility as well as angle locking of the crystalline axis of a microdiamond along an external magnetic field, with bright perspectives for these applications.

The aim of this study is to investigate whether not using the calcar screw in proximal humerus fractures affects functional and radiological outcomes. Thirty patients (21 females and 9 males) who presented with proximal humerus fractures and were treated with plate- screw fixation were evaluated. The patients were divided into two groups: group 1 included patients with the use of the calcar screw, and group 2 included patients without the calcar screw.

Objective: To investigate the effects of bone density, plate bending degree and proximal screw type on the stress fracture of clavicle hook.
Methods: Three sows weighing between 45 and 50 kg were selected, from which a total of 40 rivs were collected. The 15 ribs of sows were divided into 3 groups according to bone density and bone hardness with 5 rivs in each group.

The Asian malaria vector is invading Africa, requiring it to adapt to novel climates and ecosystems. In part, this may be facilitated by 's poorly understood seasonal behavioural plasticity in flight timing, leading to earlier biting activity in cold Asian winters and later biting times in the warm summer. Changes in behavioural timing could be directly imposed by seasonal variation in ambient light and temperature levels or result from altered entrainment of intrinsically expressed circadian rhythms by these factors.

Background: Auditory steady-state response (ASSR) abnormalities in the 40-Hz (gamma band) frequency have been observed in schizophrenia and rodent studies of N-methyl D-aspartate glutamate receptor (NMDAR) hypofunction. However, the extent to which 40-Hz ASSR abnormalities in schizophrenia resemble deficits in 40-Hz ASSR induced by acute administration of ketamine, an NMDAR antagonist, is not yet known.
Methods: To address this knowledge gap, we conducted parallel EEG studies: a crossover, placebo-controlled ketamine drug challenge study in healthy subjects (Study 1) and a comparison of patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls subjects (Study 2).

This study describes the results of first metatarsal (M1) distal osteotomy with an intramedullary locking plate in persistent/recurrent painful hallux valgus (HV) deformity (without advanced degenerative changes) after primary surgery. Outcomes included postoperative incidences of HV angle (HVA)<16°, intermetatarsal angle (IMA)<9°, proximal articular set angle (PASA)<10°, and the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score. Data normality was assessed with the Shapiro-Wilk test, and preoperative vs.
