Background And Objectives: The Giving Asthma Support to Patients (GASP) program, developed in New Zealand, guides practice nurses to provide structured asthma care. This study assessed GASP in the context of Australian general practice.
Method: The study used a pre-post design and was conducted in 19 practices in Western Sydney and Illawarra/Shoalhaven. Patients aged 5-70 years with moderate-to-severe asthma were invited to participate. Of the 289 patients who attended an initial GASP consultation, 153 attended for one or more follow-up visits. Outcomes were exacerbations requiring medical intervention in the previous 12 months, asthma control in the previous four weeks and quality of asthma care at the time of GASP consultation.
Results: There was a decrease in patients having one or more exacerbations (113 [74%] versus 80 [52%], P <0.001), and an increase in patients with good asthma control (21 [14%] versus 40 [26%], P <0.005). There was no significant change in the quality of asthma care variable.
Discussion: Implementation of the GASP program was associated with improvement in asthma outcomes.

In prednisone-dependent severe asthma, uncontrolled sputum eosinophilia is associated with increased numbers of group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s). These cells represent a relatively steroid-insensitive source of interleukin-5 (IL-5) and IL-13 and are considered critical drivers of asthma pathology. The abundance of ILC subgroups in severe asthma with neutrophilic or mixed granulocytic (both eosinophilic and neutrophilic) airway inflammation, prone to recurrent infective exacerbations, remains unclear.

Purpose: Oral corticosteroids (OCS) are an effective treatment for severe uncontrolled asthma or asthma exacerbations, but frequent bursts or long-term use carry serious and sometimes irreversible adverse effects, or complications such as adrenal insufficiency upon discontinuation. Our aim was to survey people with asthma on their experiences of, and attitudes towards, using OCS.
Patients And Methods: This study was a national descriptive cross-sectional survey of people with asthma in Australia.

Background: While prolonged operative time and increased levels fused have been shown to increase the risk of prolonged intensive care unit (ICU) length-of-stay (LOS), studies are limited in guiding decision-making regarding the need for intensive care postoperatively. This is especially the case among the cohort of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients undergoing posterior spinal fusion (PSF); associations between comorbidities and ICU LOS are not well-delineated.
Methods: AIS patients who underwent PSF from January 1st, 2016 to December 1st, 2016 at 101 participating centers were identified using the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Im-provement Project (NSQIP) Pediatric database.

Background: Environmental exposures such as airborne pollutant exposures and socio-economic indicators are increasingly recognized as important to consider when conducting clinical research using electronic health record (EHR) data or other sources of clinical data such as survey data. While numerous public sources of geospatial and spatiotemporal data are available to support such research, the data are challenging to work with due to inconsistencies in file formats and spatiotemporal resolutions, computational challenges with large file sizes, and a lack of tools for patient- or subject-level data integration.
Results: We developed FHIR PIT (HL7® Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources Patient data Integration Tool) as an open-source, modular, data-integration software pipeline that consumes EHR data in FHIR® format and integrates the data at the level of the patient or subject with environmental exposures data of varying spatiotemporal resolutions and file formats.

Background: Depression and cognitive impairments are prevalent among older adults, with evidence suggesting potential links to obesity and lipid metabolism disturbances. This study investigates the relationships between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, body mass index (BMI), depression, and cognitive dysfunction in older adults, leveraging data from the NHANES survey and employing machine learning techniques.
Methods: We analysed 1352 participants aged 60-79 from the 2011-2014 NHANES dataset, who underwent cognitive function testing, depression assessments, and TyG index measurements.
