Cellular metabolism is inextricably linked to transmembrane levels of proton (H), sodium (Na), and potassium (K) ions. Although reduced sodium-potassium pump (Na-K ATPase) activity in tumors directly disturbs transmembrane Na and K levels, this dysfunction is a result of upregulated aerobic glycolysis generating excessive cytosolic H (and lactate) which are extruded to acidify the interstitial space. These oncogene-directed metabolic changes, affecting intracellular Na and H, can be further exacerbated by upregulation of ion exchangers/transporters.

Purpose: Diabetes mellitus is a global health challenge that leads to severe complications, negatively impacting overall health, life expectancy, and quality of life. Herbal medicines, valued for their accessibility and therapeutic benefits with minimal side effects, have been promoted as potential treatments. Managing conditions like diabetes, characterized by free radical production and cytokine-driven inflammation, is vital due to the active components in plants that exert direct pharmacological effects.

Medical therapy to treat obesity and optimize fertility in women of reproductive age: a narrative review.

Departments of Internal Medicine and Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, Yale School of Medicine, 330 Cedar St, New Haven, CT, 06510, USA.

Background: Overweight and obesity-chronic illnesses in which an increase in body fat promotes adipose tissue dysfunction and abnormal fat mass resulting in adverse metabolic, biomechanical, and psychosocial health consequences-negatively impact female fertility. Adverse conception outcomes are multifactorial, ranging from poor oocyte quality and implantation issues to miscarriages and fetal health issues. However, with the advent of novel pharmacologic agents, significant weight loss can be achieved, improving the chances of healthy pregnancies, and their use should be considered during periconceptual counseling.

Cadmium is a heavy metal contaminant known to cause various health issues. However, limited research exists on the serum metabolomic effects of cadmium exposure in children. In this study, we recruited 42 children to analyze their serum metabolomic profiles, along with measuring urinary cadmium and creatinine concentrations, to evaluate the impact of environmental cadmium exposure on serum metabolism.

This study explores the feasibility of using raw Greek honey-infused cacao-based formulations for three-dimensional printing (3DP). It evaluates their physicochemical properties, thermal stability, and rheological behaviour. Three honey varieties, one of which was Lavender Honey (LH), were incorporated into cacao printlets to assess their impact on structural integrity and compatibility with Vitamin D3 (VitD3), a bioactive compound known for immune system enhancement.
