Diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (DMPM) is a rare and rapidly lethal tumor, poorly responsive to conventional treatments. In this regards, the identification of molecular alterations underlying DMPM onset and progression might be exploited to develop novel therapeutic strategies. Here, we focused on miR-550a-3p, which we found downregulated in 45 DMPM clinical samples compared to normal tissues and whose expression levels were associated with patient outcome. Through a gain-of-function approach using miRNA mimics in 3 DMPM cell lines, we demonstrated the tumor-suppressive role of miR-550a-3p. Specifically, miRNA ectopic expression impaired cell proliferation and invasiveness, enhanced the apoptotic response, and reduced the growth of DMPM xenografts in mice. Antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects were also observed in prostate and ovarian cancer cell lines following miR-550a-3p ectopic expression. miR-550a-3p effects were mediated, at least in part, by the direct inhibition of HSP90AA1 and the consequent downregulation of its target proteins, the levels of which were rescued upon disruption of miRNA-HSP90AA1 mRNA pairing, partially abrogating miR-550a-3p-induced cellular effects. Our results show that miR-550a-3p reconstitution affects several tumor traits, thus suggesting this approach as a potential novel therapeutic strategy for DMPM.

Lung malignancies, including cancerous lymphangitis and lymphomas, can mimic interstitial lung diseases like cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) on imaging, leading to diagnostic delays. We aimed to identify potential biomarkers to distinguish between these conditions. We analyzed bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from 8 patients (4 COP, mean age 59.

Adult-type diffuse gliomas are characterized by inevitable recurrence and very poor prognosis. Novel treatment options, including multimodal drugs or effective drug combinations, are therefore eagerly awaited. Tinostamustine is an alkylating and histone deacetylase inhibiting molecule with great potential in cancer treatment.

In this study, we assessed the utility of ultrasonography in monitoring the chemotherapeutic effects on primary thyroid lymphoma (PTL). This retrospective analysis included 17 patients with PTL who received chemotherapy from 2012 to 2022. The sonographic features were examined pre- and post-treatment using ultrasound (US) to monitor the treatment response at the first to second, third to fourth, and end cycles of chemotherapy and follow-up, and progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is a high-prevalence disease usually characterized by metastatic spread to the pelvic lymph nodes and bones and the development of visceral metastases only in the late stages of disease. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) plays a key role in the detection of PCa metastases. Several PET radiotracers are used in PCa patients according to the stage and pathological features of the disease, in particular Ga/F-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) ligands.

Background/objectives: Intraneural tumors (INTs) pose a diagnostic challenge, owing to their varied origins within nerve fascicles and their wide spectrum, which includes both benign and malignant forms. Accurate diagnosis and management of these tumors depends upon the skills of the radiologist in identifying key imaging features and correlating them with the patient's clinical symptoms and examination findings.
Methods: This comprehensive review systematically analyzes the various imaging features in the diagnosis of intraneural tumors, ranging from basic MR to advanced MR imaging techniques such as MR neurography (MRN), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI.
