Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system that frequently affects cognition. Persons with MS (PwMS) complain of difficulties with prospective memory (PM), the capacity to remember to perform an intended action at the appropriate moment in the future. The objective of this study was to assess the clinical utility of the (MPMT) in detecting PM deficits in MS. The test is brief, easy to administer and accessible, and allows direct comparison between scores on event- and time-based conditions. A secondary objective was to examine the relationship between PM performance and cognitive functioning. Eighty-four PwMS between 27 and 78 years old were compared to 50 age-, sex- and education-matched healthy adults on the MPMT. Time-based (TB) scores, but not event-based (EB) scores, were significantly lower in PwMS than in healthy adults. The MPMT showed good internal consistency, and correlations were found with disability assessed by the (EDSS). PM was also correlated with memory and executive/attention functioning. : This study supports the clinical utility of the MPMT in assessing the presence of PM deficits in PwMS especially under TB constraints.

Importance: Endocrine treatments, such as Tamoxifen (TAM) and/or Aromatase inhibitors (AI), are the adjuvant therapy of choice for hormone-receptor positive breast cancer. These agents are associated with menopausal symptoms, adversely affecting drug compliance. Topical estrogen (TE) has been proposed for symptom management, given its' local application and presumed reduced bioavailability, however its oncological safety remains uncertain.

Inflammatory responses and lipid metabolism disorders are key components in the development of coronary artery disease and contribute to no-reflow after coronary intervention. This study aimed to investigate the association between the neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein ratio (NHR) and no-reflow phenomenon in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). This study enrolled 288 patients with STEMI from September 1st, 2022 to February 29th, 2024, in the Zhengzhou Central Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University.

Associations of cathepsins with pulmonary arterial hypertension mediated by circulating metabolites: A Mendelian randomization study.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Disorders, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, China.

The correlation between cathepsins and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is well-established, but the causative link between them remains uncertain. This study aimed to explore the causal role of circulating metabolites mediating cathepsins in PAH using Mendelian randomization (MR). A 2-sample 2-step MR method was used to identify causal relationship between cathepsins and PAH; causal relationship between circulating metabolites and PAH; and mediated effects of these circulating metabolites.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical benefits and outcomes of adjuvant radiation therapy on adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) patients. All patients with ACC that were reported between 2010 and 2015 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. A forward-stepwise Cox proportional hazards regression was used to identify independent risk factors.

T-helper 17 (Th17) cells significantly influence the onset and advancement of malignancies. This study endeavor focused on delineating molecular classifications and developing a prognostic signature grounded in Th17 cell differentiation-related genes (TCDRGs) using machine learning algorithms in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). A consensus clustering approach was applied to The Cancer Genome Atlas-HNSCC cohort based on TCDRGs, followed by an examination of differential gene expression using the limma package.
