Central to sex differences observed in outcome from infection and vaccination is the innate immune response, and specifically production of type I interferons by plasmacytoid dendtiric cells (pDCs), the main producers of IFN-α. Evaluation of IFN-α production by pDCs is therefore critical for studies of innate immune function. However, reliable measurement of pDC IFN-α is hampered by reduced cell yields and cytokine production after cryopreservation or after even short delays in stimulating freshly isolated cells. We here describe a simple yet robust method for measuring IFN-α production in pDCs that preserves cell activation and cytokine production through immediate stimulation of whole blood and subsequent maintenance at 37 °C.

The imaging of the live cochlea is a challenging task. Regardless of the quality of images obtained from modern clinical imaging techniques, the internal structures of the cochlea mainly remain obscured. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a safe, low-cost alternative medical imaging technique with applications in various clinical scenarios.

This paper explores the applicability of bicycle-inspired balance control in a quadruped robot model. Bicycles maintain stability and change direction by intuitively steering the handle, which induces yaw motion in the body frame and generates an inertial effect to support balance. Inspired by this balancing strategy, we implemented a similar mechanism in a quadruped robot model, introducing a yaw trunk joint analogous to a bicycle's steering handle.

Background: Ripretinib, a broad-spectrum tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has been approved for the treatment of advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors in adult patients. Clinical studies have shown that higher exposure of ripretinib correlates with improved efficacy, highlighting the potential clinical significance of therapeutic drug monitoring. In this study, a simple and stable liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was attempted to be established and validated for pharmacokinetic studies of ripretinib and its metabolite DP-5439 and therapeutic drug monitoring in human plasma.

Background: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a severe facial pain disorder with complex etiology. Inflammation has been suggested as a contributing factor to TN pathogenesis. This study investigates the causal relationship between inflammatory biomarkers, including 41 circulating inflammatory cytokines, C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT), and TN using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.

Lead-based piezoceramics are the dominant materials used in electronic devices, despite the known toxicity of lead. Developing safer piezoelectric materials has inspired the pursuit of lead-free piezoceramics, however some challenges remain in accessing these materials reproducibly. Here we demonstrate a simple and robust method for synthesis of the lead-free piezoceramic material, potassium sodium niobate (KxNa1-xNbO3, KNN) via an aqueous route.
