From solar supergranulation to salt flat in Bolivia, from veins on leaves to cells on Drosophila wing discs, polygon-based networks exhibit great complexities, yet similarities and consistent patterns emerge. Based on analysis of 99 polygonal tessellations of a wide variety of physical origins, this work demonstrates the ubiquity of an exponential distribution in the squared norm of the deformation tensor, E, which directly leads to the ubiquitous presence of Gamma distributions in polygon aspect ratio as recently demonstrated by Atia [Nat. Phys. , 613 (2018)]. In turn an analytical approach is developed to illustrate its origin. E relates to most energy forms, and its Boltzmann-like feature allows the definition of a pseudo-temperature that promises utility in a thermodynamic ensemble framework.

Inhalation of 131I is the main route for internal doses to nuclear medicine workers. This study aimed to establish a simple analysis method for determining 131I activity in carbon cartridges, explore the activity concentration of 131I in nuclear medicine departments, and evaluate the internal dose of workers. A total of 21 nuclear medicine departments in the hospital conducted air sampling using a high-volume air sampler equipped with carbon cartridges and glass fiber filters to collect gaseous 131I and aerosol 131I, respectively.

In clearance measurements involving a single material type, a conversion factor was applied to convert measurement results to activity based on an assumed uniform density. However, this factor has been found to underestimate activity in material mixtures. Radioactive cesium released into the atmosphere caused by the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in March 2011 has contaminated the surrounding area. We confirmed the applicability of in-situ methods to evaluate the depth distribution of Cs by employing the ratio of Compton-scattering and photo-peak components (r) obtained from measured gamma-ray spectra. In the present study, we applied the in-situ method to farmlands in Fukushima Prefecture whose sites were disturbed by decontamination and plowing operations.
