Orv Hetil. 2022; 163(13): 523-526. Summary. The authors describe the course of disease in a 44-year-old female patient with autoimmune disease. After successful resuscitation following unexpected hospital ventricular fibrillation, the patient remained in a comatose state and therefore received therapeutic hypothermia. Hypothermic treatment resulted in significant QT prolongation and "torsade de pointes" ventricular tachycardia. The probable cause of arrhythmia is the QT prolongation caused by the hypothermia and the consequential early afterdepolarization and triggered activity. The authors draw attention to the fact that - to the best of our knowledge - milder hypothermia is recommended within the preset hypothermic range. Orv Hetil. 2022; 163(13): 523-526.

Effects of isolation methods on physicochemical properties of defatted starch from the acorn (Quercus brantii).

This study explores the innovative combined effects of alkaline isolation with ultrasound pretreatment on the physicochemical properties of acorn (Quercus brantii) starch. The optimal pH for maximizing the yield of alkaline-isolated acorn starch (AAS) was determined, followed by comparison with alkaline-isolated defatted acorn starch (ADAS), ultrasound-pretreated acorn starch (UAS), and ultrasound-pretreated defatted acorn starch (UDAS). The results demonstrated substantial improvements in yield and purity, with the highest yield (68.

Previous studies have reported that mtDNA-CN of blood was associated with a series of aging-related diseases. However, it remains unknown whether mtDNA-CN can be a potential biomarker of acute aortic syndromes (AAS). The mtDNA-CN in blood of 190 male patients with AAS and 207 healthy controls were detected by standardized qPCR-based assay.

A conceptual mechanistic model of amino acid fluxes in the small intestine, taking the example of pig.

PEGASE, INRAE, Institut Agro, 35590 Saint Gilles, France. Electronic address:

During digestion, almost 50% of absorbed essential amino acids (AAs) are metabolised by intestinal tissue, thus not appearing directly in the portal vein. This value, which is referred to as first-pass metabolism, seems high in relation to the overall efficiency of AA use considered in growth models. Experimental studies of first-pass metabolism are complicated due to the presence of numerous metabolic fluxes in the intestine and to the dynamics of digestion and absorption.

Background: Androgenic anabolic steroids (AASs) are synthetic drugs structurally related to testosterone, with the ability to bind to androgen receptors. Their uncontrolled use by professional and recreational sportspeople is a widespread problem. AAS abuse is correlated with severe damage to the cardiovascular system, including changes in homeostasis and coagulation disorders.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias (ADRD) disproportionately impact racial and ethnic minorities. Contributing biological factors that explain this disparity have been elusive. Moreover, non-invasive biomarkers for early detection of AD are needed.
