In China and other countries, many highway projects are built in extensive and high-altitude flat areas called plateaus. However, research on how the materialisation of these projects produce a series of ecological risks in the landscape is very limited. In this research, a landscape ecological risk analysis model for high-altitude plateaus is proposed. This model is based on the pattern of land uses of the surrounding area. Our study includes buffer analysis, spatial analysis, and geostatistical analysis. We apply the model to the Qumei to Gangba highway, a highway section located in the southeast city of Shigatse at the Chinese Tibet autonomous region. Through global and local spatial autocorrelation analysis, the spatial clustering distribution of ecological risks is also explored. Overall, our study reveals the spatial heterogeneity of ecological risks and how to better mitigate them. According to a comparison of the risk changes in two stages (before and after the highway construction), the impact of highway construction on the ecological environment can be comprehensively quantified. This research will be of interest to construction practitioners seeking to minimize the impact of highway construction projects on the ecological environment. It will also inform future empirical studies in the area of environmental engineering with potential affection to the landscape in high-altitude plateaus.

Numerical testing method and mechanical property evaluation of large particle size asphalt mixture.

PLoS One

January 2025

Key Laboratory for Special Area Highway Engineering of Ministry of Education, Chang'an University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China.

The large particle size asphalt mixture with nominal maximum aggregate size 53 mm(LSAM-50) has good technical and economic performance and will become an effective technical way to build a full-thick long-life asphalt pavement with Chinese characteristics. In order to reveal the mechanical properties and influencing factors of LSAM-50 in depth, a numerical test method for the mechanical properties of the large particle size LSAM-50 asphalt mixture was developed, and a reasonable specimen size for LSAM-50 performance test was proposed by combining the numerical test and the indoor test. The results show that: LSAM-50 numerical test conditions are the calculation time step 10-3 s/step, the loading rate is 2 mm/min (uniaxial compression numerical test) and 50 mm/min (splitting numerical test) when LSAM-50 numerical experiment calculation rate and numerical experiment accuracy are better; after the size of the specimen reaches 200×160mm, the influence of the size effect is eliminated.

Ultramicroporous Tröger's Base Framework Membranes With Ionized Sub-nanochannels for Efficient Acid/Alkali Recovery.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

Research Center for Membrane and Film Technology, Department of Chemical Science and Engineering, Kobe University, Kobe, 6500034, Japan.

Membrane technology holds significant potential for the recovery of acids and alkalis from industrial wastewater systems, with ion exchange membranes (IEMs) playing a crucial role in these applications. However, conventional IEMs are limited to separating only monovalent cations or anions, presenting a significant challenge in achieving concomitant H⁺/OH⁻ permselectivity for simultaneous acid and alkali recovery. To address this issue, the charged microporous polymer framework membranes are developed, featuring rigid Tröger's Base network chains constructed through a facile sol-gel process.

In urban concentrated area, the disturbance caused by construction affects significantly the sustainability of adjacent existing structures. It is essential to capture the mechanical response of existing structures to adjacent deep excavation. The objective of this paper is to investigate the displacement and internal force behavior of elevated bridge piles (BP) subject to influence of deep excavation.

In the face of forest fire emergencies, fast and efficient dispatching of rescue vehicles is an important means of mitigating the damage caused by forest fires, and is an effective method of avoiding secondary damage caused by forest fires, minimizing the damage caused by forest fires to the ecosystem, and mitigating the losses caused by economic development. this paper takes the actual problem as the starting point, constructs a reasonable mathematical model of the problem, for the special characteristics of the emergency rescue vehicle scheduling problem of forest fires, taking into account the actual road conditions in the northern pristine forest area, through the analysis of the cost of paths between the forest area and the highway, to obtain the least obstructed rescue paths, to narrow the gap between the theoretical model and the problem of the actual. Improvement of ordinary genetic algorithm, design of double population strategy selection operation, the introduction of chaotic search initialization population, to improve the algorithm's solution efficiency and accuracy, through the northern pristine forest area of Daxing'anling real forest fire cases and generation of large-scale random fire point simulation experimental test to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, to ensure that the effectiveness and reasonableness of the solution to the problem of forest fire emergency rescue vehicle scheduling program.

This paper examines the design of antennas for Hi-pass type turnstiles needed to implement a subway free-pass system targeting transportation-disadvantaged individuals. The subway free-pass system allows individuals who have a free-pass card to approach the turnstile with the card on their person, which opens the gate automatically. This system, like the highway Hi-pass, allows users to pass through the subway gate without needing to scan a ticket.
