Purpose Of Review: This article discusses a tailored approach to managing cardiogenic shock and temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS). We also outline specific mobilization strategies for patients with different tMCS devices and configurations, which can be enabled by this tailored approach to cardiogenic shock management.

Recent Findings: Safe and effective mobilization of patients with cardiogenic shock receiving tMCS can be accomplished.

Spray-Flame Synthesis (SFS) and Characterization of LiAlYTi(PO) [LA(Y)TP] Solid Electrolytes.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Institute for Energy and Materials Processes-Reactive Fluids, University of Duisburg-Essen, 47057 Duisburg, Germany.

Solid-state electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries, which enable a significant increase in storage capacity, are at the forefront of alternative energy storage systems due to their attractive properties such as wide electrochemical stability window, relatively superior contact stability against Li metal, inherently dendrite inhibition, and a wide range of temperature functionality. NASICON-type solid electrolytes are an exciting candidate within ceramic electrolytes due to their high ionic conductivity and low moisture sensitivity, making them a prime candidate for pure oxidic and hybrid ceramic-in-polymer composite electrolytes. Here, we report on producing pure and Y-doped Lithium Aluminum Titanium Phosphate (LATP) nanoparticles by spray-flame synthesis.

Applications of Au Nanoclusters in Photon-Based Cancer Therapies.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH 44106, USA.

Atomically precise gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) exhibit unique physical and optical properties, making them highly promising for targeted cancer therapy. Their small size enhances cellular uptake, facilitates rapid distribution to tumor tissues, and minimizes accumulation in non-target organs compared to larger gold nanoparticles. AuNCs, particularly Au, show significant potential in phototherapy, including photothermal (PTT), photodynamic (PDT), and radiation therapies.

Mechanisms of Rhodopsin-Related Inherited Retinal Degeneration and Pharmacological Treatment Strategies.

Cells

January 2025

Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, 10900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106, USA.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a hereditary disease characterized by progressive vision loss ultimately leading to blindness. This condition is initiated by mutations in genes expressed in retinal cells, resulting in the degeneration of rod photoreceptors, which is subsequently followed by the loss of cone photoreceptors. Mutations in various genes expressed in the retina are associated with RP.

: This article presents analytical techniques and a decision support tool to aid in hospital capacity assessment and case mix planning (CMP). To date, no similar techniques have been provided in the literature. : Initially, an optimization model is proposed to analyze the impact of making a specific change to an existing case mix, identifying how patient types should be adjusted proportionately to varying levels of hospital resource availability.
