Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest health challenges of our time. We are now facing a post-antibiotic era in which microbial infections, currently treatable, could become fatal. In this scenario, antimicrobial peptides such as bacteriocins represent an alternative solution to traditional antibiotics because they are produced by many organisms and can inhibit bacteria, fungi, and/or viruses. Herein, we assessed the antimicrobial activity and biotechnological potential of 54 strains isolated from bovine mastitis. Deferred plate antagonism assays revealed an inhibition spectrum focused on species of the genus -namely, , , , and . Three genomes were successfully sequenced, allowing for their taxonomic confirmation via a multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA). Virulence potential and antibiotic resistance assessments showed that strain LGMAI_St_08 is slightly more pathogenic than the others. Moreover, the gene was identified in the three strains. This gene is associated with resistance against erythromycin, azithromycin, and spiramycin. Assessments for secondary metabolites and antimicrobial peptides detected the bacteriocin zoocin A. Finally, comparative genomics evidenced high similarity among the genomes, with more significant similarity between the LGMAI_St_11 and LGMAI_St_14 strains. Thus, the current study shows promising antimicrobial and biotechnological potential for the strains.

Two novel yeast strains, NYNU 236247 and NYNU 23523, were isolated from the leaves of Hance, collected in the Tianchi Mountain National Forest Park, Henan Province, central China. Phylogenetic analysis of the D1/D2 domain of the large subunit rRNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region revealed the closest relatives of the strains are three described species: , and . The novel species differed from the type strains of these three species by 12 to 22 nucleotide substitutions and 1 gap (~2.

Small, obligately anaerobic strains 13CB8C, 13CB11C, 13CB18C and 13GAM1G were isolated from a faecal sample in a patient with Parkinson's disease with a history of duodenal resection. After conducting a comprehensive polyphasic taxonomic analysis including genomic analysis, we propose the establishment of one new genus and four new species. The novel bacteria are sp.

Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is a global animal pathogen. Traditional identification methods are time-consuming necessitating a more efficient approach. This study validated and enhanced the loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technique by integration it with a lateral flow dipstick (LFD) assay for the detection of S.

We present the genome of BDSA isolated from ready-to-eat (RTE) meat collected in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The genome displays the Listeria pathogenicity island 1 and virulence, stress response, and antimicrobial resistance genes. It was phylogenetically classified as ST7, and clustered with serotype 1/2a belonging to lineage II.
