An exploratory work involving waste printed wiring board (WPWB)-derived inexpensive silver oxide (AgO)-grafted silica-alumina composite photocatalyst (SAA) using quartz halogen and UVA irradiations (QHUV) (wavelength: 315 nm-1000 nm) has been revealed. The efficacy of the novel SAA photocatalyst was assessed in the synthesis of fermentable sugar (FS) by photo-hydrolysis of pure crystalline cellulose (PCC) in the QHUV-assisted batch reactor (QHUVBR), and the process parameters (5% AgNO doping, 7.5% catalyst concentration, 20 min PH time, and 80 °C PH temperature) were optimized using Taguchi orthogonal array design. The BET analysis of the optimal SAA catalyst possessed high surface area (27.24 m/g), high pore volume, and pore diameter (0.042 cc/g and 13.1684 nm), respectively, whereas the XRD indicated the presence of significant crystalline phases of AgO. EDS mapping displayed the uniform distribution of silver active sites on silica-alumina support of the optimal SAA photocatalyst. The optimized parametric conditions in QHUVBR resulted in a maximum FS yield of 77.53% which was significantly higher compared to that achieved (34.52%) in a conventionally heated batch reactor (CHBR). Besides, the energy consumption was 75% more in CHBR (600 W) in comparison with QHUVBR (150 W), making the process energy-efficient and cost-effective. The environmental sustainability could be ascertained from the life cycle assessment (LCA) study in terms of low climate change, ionizing radiation, metal depletion, human toxicity, and other potential indicator values.

Hox genes specify identities mainly in the anteroposterior axis in various animal tissues, some of them forming part of the internal organs and systems. The expression and activity of these genes have been analyzed mainly in Drosophila melanogaster, the fruit fly, and in mouse; in the former, the functional study of Hox genes has been detailed predominantly in epidermal structures, but their role in internal organs poses some challenges, particularly in pupae. One of these genes, Abdominal-B, dictates the development of many internal organs in the posterior abdomen of the fly, yet techniques for its analysis, like in vivo time-lapse, have long been impractical.

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is the primary causative agent of porcine circovirus-associated disease, clinically resulting in immunosuppression and co-infections with other pathogens in infected pigs. The mechanism of PCV2 infection remains unclear. In this study, we firstly found that the tetraspanin CD81 in PK-15 cells interacts with PCV2 Cap protein by using virus overlay protein-binding assay combined with mass spectrometry.

The integration of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with functional materials has established a versatile platform for a wide range of energy storage applications. Due to their large specific surface area, high porosity, and tunable structural properties, MOFs hold significant promise as components in energy storage systems, including electrodes, electrolytes, and separators for alkali metal-ion batteries (AIBs). Although lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used, their commercial graphite anode materials are nearing their theoretical capacity limits, and the scarcity of lithium and cobalt resources increases costs.

Alphaviruses, a genus of vector-borne viruses in the family, encode a small ion-channel-forming protein, 6K, and its transframe variant (TF) during infections. Although 6K/TF have vital roles in glycoprotein transport, virus assembly, and budding, there is no mechanistic explanation for these functions. We investigated the distinct biochemical functionalities of 6K and TF from the mosquito-borne alphavirus, Chikungunya Virus.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent post-transcriptional modification in eukaryotic RNA and is also present in various viral RNAs, where it plays a crucial role in regulating the viral life cycle. However, the molecular mechanisms through which viruses regulate host RNA m6A methylation are not fully understood. In this study, we reveal that SARS-CoV-2 and HCoV-OC43 infection enhance host m6A modification by activating the mTORC1 signaling pathway.
