Virtual planning has become part and parcel of digital dentistry to ensure more precise planning, better treatment outcomes, and more effective communication between dental practitioners, dental technicians, and patients. In dentistry, CAD software programs are one way to achieve virtual treatment planning. Among the most crucial and critical steps in treatment planning and execution are virtual articulation and occlusal analysis of the maxillary and mandibular arches. These steps have a great influence on the success of the final outcome. The present article proposes a detailed method for constructing a novel virtual articulator that can also be used for educational purposes to enable occlusal analysis and adjustment for a virtual tooth mock-up by simulating a virtual dynamic occlusion through the use of open-source Autodesk Meshmixer software.

Background: The presence of cancer and its treatment will induce anxiety and various effects, not only on a physical level but also on a psychological level. Play therapy can be used by children to articulate their emotions and foster proficient communication with healthcare professionals and caregivers. Play therapy emerges as a highly effective method for the management of illness in children diagnosed with cancer.

Objective: In-depth investigation of the diagnostic performance of dual-energy CT (DECT) virtual non-calcium (VNCa) technique for sacroiliac joint bone marrow edema (BME) in patients with ankylosing spondylitis(AS).

Methods: A total of 42 patients with AS)who underwent sacroiliac joint MRI and DECT scans on the same day at our Rheumatology and Immunology Department between August 2022 and June 2023 were selected. Using MRI as the reference standard, the presence of BME on the iliac and sacral surfaces was evaluated, resulting in the categorization of patients into BME-positive and BME-negative groups.

Background: The purposes of this study were to examine the reliability and factorial and convergent validity of a virtual performance measure (VPM) in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip joint and to compare the known-group validity of the VPM with traditional self-report and performance-based outcomes.

Methods: The VPM score was based on the results of 10 videos showing increasing difficulty in performing specific functional tasks. Patients were requested to choose the video that best reflected their own level of function.

Estimating a 3D Human Skeleton from a Single RGB Image by Fusing Predicted Depths from Multiple Virtual Viewpoints.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Electrical Engineering, Center for Innovative Research on Aging Society (CIRAS), Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-Tech Innovations (AIM-HI), National Chung Cheng University, Chia-Yi 621, Taiwan.

In computer vision, accurately estimating a 3D human skeleton from a single RGB image remains a challenging task. Inspired by the advantages of multi-view approaches, we propose a method of predicting enhanced 2D skeletons (specifically, predicting the joints' relative depths) from multiple virtual viewpoints based on a single real-view image. By fusing these virtual-viewpoint skeletons, we can then estimate the final 3D human skeleton more accurately.

Purpose: Congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) is a rare condition typically manifesting within the first decade of life. The primary objectives of surgical intervention for CPT include achieving long-term bony union of the tibia, preventing or minimizing limb length discrepancies (LLD), avoiding mechanical axis deviations of the tibia and adjacent joints, and preventing refracture. This study aims to conduct a systematic review of current treatment methods for CPT to determine the most effective non-surgical and surgical management strategies for pediatric patients with this condition.
