Deep neural networks have made tremendous strides in the categorization of facial photos in the last several years. Due to the complexity of features, the enormous size of the picture/frame, and the severe inhomogeneity of image data, efficient face image classification using deep convolutional neural networks remains a challenge. Therefore, as data volumes continue to grow, the effective categorization of face photos in a mobile context utilizing advanced deep learning techniques is becoming increasingly important. In the recent past, some Deep Learning (DL) approaches for learning to identify face images have been designed; many of them use convolutional neural networks (CNNs). To address the problem of face mask recognition in facial images, we propose to use a Depthwise Separable Convolution Neural Network based on MobileNet (DWS-based MobileNet). The proposed network utilizes depth-wise separable convolution layers instead of 2D convolution layers. With limited datasets, the DWS-based MobileNet performs exceptionally well. DWS-based MobileNet decreases the number of trainable parameters while enhancing learning performance by adopting a lightweight network. Our technique outperformed the existing state of the art when tested on benchmark datasets. When compared to Full Convolution MobileNet and baseline methods, the results of this study reveal that adopting Depthwise Separable Convolution-based MobileNet significantly improves performance (Acc. = 93.14, Pre. = 92, recall = 92, -score = 92).

Early and highly accurate detection of rapidly damaging deadly disease like Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is essential for providing appropriate treatment to save valuable lives. Recent development in deep learning, particularly transfer learning, is gaining a preferred trend of research in medical image processing because of their admirable performance, even with small datasets. It inspires us to develop a novel deep learning-based leukemia detection system in which an efficient and lightweight MobileNetV2 is used in conjunction with ShuffleNet to boost discrimination ability and enhance the receptive field via convolution layer succession.

Classifying Motor Imaging (MI) Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals is of vital importance for Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems, but challenges remain. A key challenge is to reduce the number of channels to improve flexibility, portability, and computational efficiency, especially in multi-class scenarios where more channels are needed for accurate classification. This study demonstrates that combining Electrooculogram (EOG) channels with a reduced set of EEG channels is more effective than relying on a large number of EEG channels alone.

Brain tumors present a significant global health challenge, and their early detection and accurate classification are crucial for effective treatment strategies. This study presents a novel approach combining a lightweight parallel depthwise separable convolutional neural network (PDSCNN) and a hybrid ridge regression extreme learning machine (RRELM) for accurately classifying four types of brain tumors (glioma, meningioma, no tumor, and pituitary) based on MRI images. The proposed approach enhances the visibility and clarity of tumor features in MRI images by employing contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE).

Grasping objects of irregular shapes and various sizes remains a key challenge in the field of robotic grasping. This paper proposes a novel RGB-D data-based grasping pose prediction network, termed Cascaded Feature Fusion Grasping Network (CFFGN), designed for high-efficiency, lightweight, and rapid grasping pose estimation. The network employs innovative structural designs, including depth-wise separable convolutions to reduce parameters and enhance computational efficiency; convolutional block attention modules to augment the model's ability to focus on key features; multi-scale dilated convolution to expand the receptive field and capture multi-scale information; and bidirectional feature pyramid modules to achieve effective fusion and information flow of features at different levels.
