Due to their difficulty in pathogenesis, nervous system disease (NSD) therapies have long been challenging problems for researchers. With the rise in the ageing population, the quest for successful NSD therapies has become a hot topic. Polysaccharides demonstrated numerous biological effects in anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation, and immune regulation. In recent years, several studies have been conducted in light of the connection between the properties of polysaccharides and the pathogenesis of neurological conditions. In this review, we aim to discuss the most recent reports on the beneficial properties and mechanisms of polysaccharides for nervous system-related diseases.

Background: Survival rate of patients with oral cancer (OC) remains to be very low despite advancements in therapy and surgical techniques. This is attributed to the fact that most OC cases are discovered at a late stage. Dentists play a vital role in early detection of OC through oral mucosal examination, and in informing the patients about avoidable risk factors of the disease, such as tobacco and excessive alcohol use.

Adoptive cell therapy with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) can mediate tumor regression, including complete and durable responses, in a range of solid cancers, most notably in melanoma. However, its wider application and efficacy has been restricted by the limited accessibility, proliferative capacity and effector function of tumor-specific TIL. Here, we develop a platform for the efficient identification of tumor-specific TCR genes from diagnostic tumor biopsies, including core-needle biopsies frozen in a non-viable format, to enable engineered T cell therapy.

Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a known side effect of systemic steroid therapy. The role of intravitreal steroids in causing CSC is controversial. We present two cases of acute CSC that developed after intravitreal steroid injections.

: Orthognathic surgery is used to restore a correct anatomical and functional relationship between the jaws, with postoperative nasal septal deviation (NSD) being a common complication of Le Fort I osteotomy (LF-IO). The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of NSD after LF-IO and to identify possible risk factors. : Pre- and postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans from 2018 to 2023 of 102 patients after LF-IO were analyzed.

Adherence to national trauma triage criteria in Norway: a cross-sectional study.

Scand J Trauma Resusc Emerg Med

December 2024

Department of Emergency Medicine and Pre-Hospital Services, St. Olav's University Hospital, 7006, Trondheim, Norway.

Background: Norwegian hospitals employed individual trauma triage criteria until 2015 when nationwide criteria were implemented. There is a lack of empirical evidence regarding adherence to Norwegian national criteria for activation of the trauma team (NTrC) and the decision-making processes regarding trauma team activation (TTA) within Norwegian trauma hospitals. The objectives of this study were to investigate institutional adherence to the NTrC and to investigate similarities and differences in the decision-making process leading to TTA in Norwegian trauma hospitals.
